Meryll83's SBP/Citrico's/Morocco PJ - Update: Trip Report now underway!!

Ok, so I've just been getting clarification of what exactly this means (:rotfl:tomboy alert!) and I just wondered, is it ever impossible to bustle a dress or should it be OK??
I'm back at the dress shop on the 29th, but as I think I may have previously mentioned, I felt a bit rushed this last time, and I just wanted to make sure that they won't lie to me and say no we can't do it, just to save themselves some more time.
I don't think any of you are professional seamstresses out there (but hey, who knows?!;)), but I just wondered if anyone had been told that their dress couldn't have this feature?

It would be mega handy to be able to tuck away that beastie train during our meal and dessert party, then I won't have to worry about being trodden on or getting caught on stuff!

I don't really know but I would have thought it would depend on the skirt. As you are having a pick up skirt this maybe harder as it won't hang as nice. But I haven't really got a clue i'm just guessing.

I've just goggled it apparantly you want a french bustle!

Thanks for the research!

I just found this neat little site:
http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/Bustles.htm
And the "tufted bustle" actually appears to have been demonstrated on my dress!
However........ this looks the most complicated, which I'm sure would affect the price.
I'm not too good at reading what it means but am I right in thinking that at each jewel at a certain level right around the dress, the bottom of the dress gets hooked over at each of these points? So like there could be 16 seperate hooky bits that need to be attached?
Can anyone help me translate and understand?:rotfl:

I wonder if I should print this out to show the dressmaker, or do you think she'd get offended like I was trying to tell her what to do?

That is a good website. Yes I think that is what she is saying. I think it can be quite pricey, it does look the best though. I see no harm in taking it with you if she knows exactly what to do you don't have to get the print off out of your bag.

That's a good idea, then I won't offend (well at least not immediately!), but I just don't want her to say it can't be done, I'll have my backup evidence ready to whip out if she does!

Julie and Jackie are trying dresses on on Saturday, then I think we're gonna go for a light lunch afterwards, the 2 have met before and I've no doubt they'll get on, but they don't really know each other so time for a bit of bridal party bonding!
Has anyone else done any bonding activities for members of their bridal party? It's probably not as vital now there are only 2 bridesmaids rather than the inital 4, and 2 of the old crew knew each other already, whereas the others only really knew me, so at least that inhibitor doesn't apply anymore! (ooh posh words for just after lunch!)
If there's only 11 of us in total it'd be nice to get the group together one night in a little gathering, I can ply them all with useless Disney knowledge!

You can bustle any dress - it just may be that yours requires the 16-point bustle because of pickups and all that fabric.... In the US the going rate is $5-$10 per point to have a bustle made.

There are numerous styles of bustle, depending on whether you want the fabric gathered on top or tucked under. They can be buttons with loops or they can be ties, but I have heard more horror stories about ties coming undone.

My seamstress made four loops out of braided thread and sewed them into the skirt with a button at the base, under the fabric, to give them stability and make a place to grab the loop without stressing it. Then she installed four buttons up near the waistline that the loops hooked over. She drew a diagram of the order in which the loops needed to be hooked, which I carried with me so that anyone could help me do my bustle. It ended up being DF:

Bless him!
Sound like yours may only be a quarter of the problem mine could be though!!:lmao:
Just out of curiosity, which parts of the day did you bustle for, and which parts did you go wild and unbustle? :rotfl:

MERYLL I LOVE YOUR DRESS!!!!   I made an appt with Arielle Bridal and they sell Maggie's and now I really want to try on that dress! It looks so pretty in person!

They can definitely bustle it, I was trying on pick-ups and they said they could bustle, they just couldn't cut off the train completely HTH!

You know, the only time I had my train down was for the ceremony. It was bustled in the morning for all our pictures, and then bustled immediately after the ceremony and for the rest of the day and night. It was so much easier to move around that way, the dress stayed clean, and people said it looked better bustled anyway!

I love the shop name :thumbsup2

I love your pictures, they really are smoochtastic!
I think I will let the train run wild and free for the ceremony and pictures at the Boardwalk, and then get that bad boy bustled for the rest of the day so I don't have to worry about it.

Ok, so bridesmaid dress trying on day was today and I have more photos!
They had 3 different sizes of dress in the shop, none of which were the right size for the girls :lmao: typical!
So we have guessed at what sizes they will be on inbetweeness, and they're going to let me know their measurements and we'll compare it to the size charts and then hopefully get those babies ordered online :thumbsup2

So, both in sizes too big for them, here's Julie (who is no longer a faceless wonder but has pesky stripy socks again, at least these ones are more colour co-ordinated!):

and Jackie (busy laughing at me for not being able to use Julie's camera phone and Julie taking charge!):

with the tiny dress that would fit no-one, but is the correct colour, hanging up at the side there!
Here they are, looking equally puzzled as to how this dress would fit anyone:

Hopefully they'll forgive me for that sometime before the wedding ;)

We were pondering over whether to get Julie a shorter length of the dress I've seen online (despite the shop woman saying they only come in one size) but when she tried the smaller size on it seemed a bit shorter and once the high heels come in to play we'll be in business with the regular length!

Hey you!

Those dresses are gorgeous, really beautiful. I love the colour - as you know!

That really small dress would fit my right leg to just above the knee I think.

:rotfl:

Julie could actually get into it, but it wasn't going to zip up!

I'm just wondering now when to get them ordered.

They don't seem to be available on line many places, and I get antsy about anything like this and want to get them bought so I know it's done!

We've been contemplating booking the holiday this weekend, without still having the official word on when half term is :scared1:

what make are they? i got mine from reptonia online but mine are dessy

They are Bella by Venus. Or Venus by Bella. I can't remember which way round it is now :lmao:
A site called I think it's magicalmoments works out best with shipping.
I think it was bestbridal were charging over $200 for shipping
TJ Formal were the best before, but now they only have 2 sizes available and in black. This makes me TOTALLY panic that they're discontinued and I'll lose them if I don't act soon. probably just me being paranoid but I can't even find them to buy online anywhere else!

oh the shop i got mine from doesnt do that make but its in derby and was a great price once i looked into getting them from the states and then adding shipping, customs and tax so i got a good price of £110 a dress with free shipping and the dress shop near me was charging £180 per dress

These dresses are about the same cost in pounds at the local shop we've been to as in dollars online, so even with any shipping and customs charges it's still a saving!

I noticed today that the shop my dress is at stocks this designer so I might check what their price would be when I go back in case it differs...

I love your BM dresses... especially the detail:goodvibes
Thanks girls, we thought they would be a good to wear both in Florida and at home, and are very flattering should either girl change size at all.
I really like the detail too, it makes them so pretty with a little bit of sparkle :lovestruc
