Rec'd a bottle of Merlot. I definately do not know much about wine.

Is it better chilled, or room temp?

A red wine always tastes better at room temp!!!! We make our own red wine and looooove it!

Actually, it depends on where you live as to whether you want to drink it at room temperature. Merlots are best at about 65 degrees. If you live in South Florida, you might want to chill it a bit, and if you live in Michigan, room temperature is about right.

I agree. All red wines are actually best served at a temp of 60 to 65 degrees. My wine frig maintains a temp of about 62 on the red setting (48 on the white setting).

If you are looking for a good bottle at a reasonable price I highly recommend Coppola (~$12-15 a bottle) and Columbia Crest Grand Estates (~$10-13 a bottle).

Let it breathe a bit, too. (Open it and then wait a bit maybe a half hour before drinking.)


If its awful (or even if you just think its awful) try this--

mix it 50/50 with black cherry Fresca.

Seriously, if its too dry for you and its too late cause you already opened it-- may as well make something fun to drink!

Personally, I like Sangiovese or zinfandel better. I like the bite and the spice they tend to offer.

Be prepared I had such a huge build-up from work friends about merlot and YUCK I absolutely hated it. My taste runs to Sangria and zinfandel GO BEARS
