One of my favorite Bars on any cruise line is Disney's Meridian on the Dream & Fantasy. Was wondering of the Magic has anything similar?

We also love Meridian. Great place to have a beverage while watching a port recede into the distance.

Sadly, no the classic ships don't have an equivalent.

However, both the Cadillac Lounge and Keys are wonderful upscale bars. Not the same location, but because they have large windows, they feel far more airy and light than the other bars on Dream and Wonder in the adult district.

And may I piggyback onto this thread with a question about Meridian? I was wondering if one ought to comply with the Palo dress code when going there for a drink? Or are people going there with normal cruise casual wear?

We've gone there in normal cruise casual wear on nights when we weren't going to Palo/Remy. Not a problem although we did (self-conciously) feel underdressed.

Jumping off this thread, do you know if any of the bars on the Magic will make the drinks served in Meridian? I LOVE the balsamic strawberry martini -- any chance I can get it on the Magic?

I've found, if the bartender doesn't know how to make a drink, and I know the recipe, they're willing to give it a shot (as long as they have the ingredients).

It was available in Palo as a speciality drink. You might also be lucky and get it made in Keys.

A note about different drinks at different bars.

More like a question really.

Having been on the Fantasy for a week, I realize now that I'm mostly used to mainland "full service" bars, where any bar you go to has just about any kind of drink you might want.

On the Fantasy, most of the bars are more like "specialty bars," where each bar speciallizes in a certain kind of thing.

Skyline had a bunch of mixed drinks.

Meridian had a lot of high end alcohol and was one of the few bars that had a coffee machine for coffee drinks.

I'm sure the Irish Sports bar and the Italian Bar had their specialties too, but I didn't spend enough time in them to find out.

So my question to you "regulars" is:

Can you tell us what sorts of drinks each bar on the Fantasy (for instance) specializes in?

Thanks!

Most bartenders can make any drink since they rotate, and a lot of them have sailed on different boats at different times. Ask nicely enough and I bet that if they have the ingredients they'll be more than happy to whip one up for you.

Ooh La La (Fantasy) and Pink (Dream) do *not* have the supplies to make a lot of normal drinks, since they are very much champagne based. I've tried and couldn't since I don't much care for champagne most of the time.
The Tube/Evolution can make just about anything. So can Skyline, or they can get the supplies from Tube/Evolution.
La Piazza/District Lounge are pretty well equipped, as are both O'Gill's and 687, though I haven't spent much time in O'Gill's/687 since I loathe sports bars (and most bars with TVs in general).
Meridian has most everything needed, but it's more whisky/whiskey-based.
Currents is primarily a beer and fruity/frozen drink bar, but they have the basics.
Cove Bar can make just about anything.
Bon Voyage is pretty well stocked.
I didn't spend any time in Waves on the Dream, and Waves on the Fantasy is an afterthought.

I'm probably missing a few places, but that's about it.

And this is why my smartphone has about 5-6 different cocktail apps on it that don't require an internet connection. I use them all the time in my own bar.

We used to go in the afternoon just dressed casually. One of our favourite places to go (Dream). Although we did a champagne tasting in Pink and loved it and intended to go back there for more, we kept going back to Meridian. On that cruise, we were introduced to iced champagne (Moet & Chandon Imperial Ice) at that tasting and they had it in Meridian. Every time we went there, we went so often and I ordered it most of the time so the server just started getting me a glass of that as soon as she saw me with a little twist of lemon peel and sometimes with a little dish of caramel covered strawberries or salted carmels. I was going to try other things but I loved it so much I never did (DH on the other hand worked his way through their martini menu). I have immensely fond memories of that place. We're on the Fantasy this December so I'm looking forward to spending time there. When we were on the Dream we did a B2B and decided to sit out the Sailaway Party by sitting outside at Meridian and watching the ship leave port from there. Best decision ever! We were the only ones there, had great views, nice drink, and were able to hear the party from there.

No equivalent on the Magic but we do love the piano bar for which there is no equivalent on the Dream class ships. It's quiet, great music (especially if they have someone who does Gershwin) and they do a nice range of drinks. That's our second favourite (if you don't include Cove Cafe).
