Ok I figured since there was a PMS thread this would be ok to post. Is there anyone here that is going through menopause without HRT and have found something that offers some relief?
I had a total hysterectomy 5 years ago and due to family history with strokes they would not put my on HRT. Last week my doctor informed me for the first time that because I am only 33 I could be going through this until I am 50/55 years old. No one told me I was going to go through 20 years of menopause when they were telling me I needed surgery! :confused3 When I thought there was an end in sight I was dealing pretty well with it but I can't go another 20 years without a full nights sleep sweating like a marathon runner. My doctor was no help so I am just wondering what has worked for you?

A shameless bump in the hopes someone here has some good ideas for me

Have you read "What Your Doctor Never Told You About Menopause?" It advocates natural progesterone. I've had a bit of luck with it. No miracles, but better. Hope you find the right answer for you.

I hope we get some answers! I am in my very late forties and lately I have not slept thru the night because of the horrible hot flashes and sweating waking me up. :furious: I am pretty good during the day, but as soon as I go to sleep it starts. I don't want HRT because I am afraid of the side effects.

Someone here must have some natural alternative suggestions :confused3

Hmmm....I guess I'm confused.

If you had your ovaries removed you would immediately go into menopause and it would probably be hard and fast and last for several months to a year.

If you did not have your ovaries removed you should go through menopause whenever you normally would. A hysterectomy with the ovaries kept in tact should not cause menopause and certainly not one that could last nearly 20 years.

So, I guess I don't like your doctor's explanation.

My friend had a hysterectomy when she was in her 30s. Her ovaries were left in. She went through menopause in her 40s and it was standard menopause.
