My fiancee has been, well.......on me to take her to afternoon tea.

I think I might actually do it this december trip. The plan is to go there, and then right to MVMCP.

My question is, and trust me I'm not at all self-conscious about this, but out of curiosity..........do any men attend this?

Oh heavens yes..men attend..including my hubby, and he is not the only one there when we go. He can't wait to go back.

If you check the menu at allearsnet.com, we each get one of the combo things..his comes with port at the end and mine comes with champagne. They both have different foods so we can sample each others. They are delicious.

Hubby and I both recommend the tea at GF..wish we could fit it into our upcoming trip, lol. In fact..the first thing out of hubbys mouth..lets go to the tea again. Make sure you make a ps.

I took my DBF there last time ... he really loved it and we're doing it again on this trip :) I asked him if he felt out of place and he said he was quite comfortable... of course we go for afternoon tea on a regular basis at home.

One more question.
I don't mind dressing up, but is it absolutely necessary, especially if I'll be headed over to MVMCP?

I know you don't have to dress up-I've been twice and wore jeans both times.
As far as DH going-I feel jealous after hearing the responses here.
My DH felt and looked EXTREMELY out of place. Think "Tim the tool man does the GF Tea". He really tried, but I just kept giggling because he looked so uncomfortable. I guess I just didn't marry a GF Tea kind of Guy.

I'm another lucky girl as my husband does not mind the afternoon tea thing at all. In fact, he surprised during our anniversary get away to Asheville NC with tea at Chelsea's tea room & there was only one other guy there & he couldn't care less.
At the Grand Floridian, you won't be the only man there so you won't feel out of place. We've worn theme park attire (jeans, shorts) & didn't feel uncomfortable at all. It is Disney World & they expect people to be dressed for the parks.
Have a great time & take your woman to afternoon tea. :smooth:

I have been to the GF tea twice, with DW. I enjoyed it. Getting a PS in December can be a challenge because of all the office Christmas parties. We tried for a PS a couple of Decembers ago with no luck.

Is this something that you can bring a 3 year old boy? My DH and I really want to try this, but are not sure if it is appropriate for a toddler. He is pretty well behaved in restaurants, but I don't want to feel out of place. How long does the tea run?

No..you really don't have to dress up...hubby wore khaki shorts and shirt..same thing he would wear to a park to play. I wore capris and a top with sandals. There was a man with jeans and shirt there also. Some woman had sundresses on..so a little bit of everything. As long as you don't wear swim attire I would guess you are pretty much ok.

As far as the toddler...if he can sit still for an hour or so without disturbing people around him..then I would say take him. If not..then I would say..don't. This is a very quiet..relaxing setting.
There is a childrens at the GF also. You could also put him in one of the childrens clubs for a couple hours while you go to tea..he would probably love that anyway, much more than having to sit still for an hour. There was one child...she was probably about 7 or 8, with her grandparents..her behavior was perfect.

I've seen a lot of men there. You can order a beer or a scotch, don't need to order tea.

We went once in dressy shorts and nice tops and felt very underdressed. We normally wear slacks and a nice top, or I'll wear a casual dress.

I wouldn't take a pre-schooler there. I think it's boring for them. It's a very quiet atmosphere, and they would be very noticced if they weren't very quiet.

The kids clubs aren't open during the day, although I believe that the new child care center on property will accept drop-ins, space available.

We have managed to get into tea without a reservation, although we got lucky. I strongly suggest a PS for this.

We would NEVER, ever have gotten in--in December without a PS. The tour busses of Senior Citizens show up to see the decorations at the GF and they all try to get in to the tea! You should have seen the stand-by line to get in in early December and you should have seen the glaring looks my 2 young sons and I received as we walked by the waiting seniors to be seated!

My step-dad (a man's-man) really enjoyed the tea the year before when he went with my mom. I saw several men having tea there last December. Go, and enjoy!

As far as the three year old...it is a VERY quiet, intimate atmosphere at the tea. I had both a 6 and an 11 year old boy with me and was confident in their ability to sit very quietly for long periods of time. I have very well behaved children, but at 3 years old, I would not have felt that confidant with any of them. I would have been nervous about them being loud, dropping things, getting antsy...

I am taking my MIL to the GF Tea for the first time in October. When I made my PS the CM asked if I was bringing my 3yo. I don't think she could handle it and I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. I would be too worried about her. She is going to have pool time with Daddy instead. :)

Ok, I did this with my honey and her mother last year. It was much more fun than I would have ever imagined. I encourage you to make your reservations ASAP because when my mother outlaw tried to change the day that she wanted to do it, it was impossible to make the change.....this was about 30 days out.

Now, I have to say that I am not the Tea type. I felt like a bull in a china store.....for the first few minutes. Then, I relaxed. We had the whole evening to enjoy the Tea. It took a good 2-1/2 hours to finish. The place was just slammed. The waitstaff was awesome. They busted their buns that day.

There were people there of all ages. There were older women in a group, a group of young ladies with their 30-something moms, a few traditional couples, and many mixed groups. The attire was anything from shorts and t-shirts to Sunday best. It just depended what table you were looking at.

I highly suggest the Cinnamon Spice tea. It was awesome.....and I don't even really like hot tea.

One last thing, you mentioned that you wanted to do this and go to MCMCP from there. I would not do this. The Tea takes awhile from start to finish and I wouldn't want to have done it any other way than relaxed. I don't think it would have been as special if we were in a rush to get out of there. I suggest that you give this another slot in your itinerary.

Whatever you choose, just know that it can be a lot of fun, just give it a chance. Maggie

I highly encourage you to go. A few years ago my DH (who has had tea at GF many times) and I took our 30yo DS and DF to the GF tea during a family trip. He enjoyed the experience so much that he wanted to do it again. So he made a PS and treated us later in the week.
Don't worry about what to wear. During our November trip we intend to go to tea as a quiet break during a day at MK. We'll be in regular park clothes like almost everyone else. There is no dress code - jeans, shorts whatever you normally wear.
Remember CMs are great. They will unobtrusively make you feel comfortable in any situation.

My husband and I went to tea at GF several years ago. He will not try new things or eat anything that looks the slightest bit unusual. Our waitress was very accommodating to him and let him order the Belle's tea off the childrens menu which consisted of peanut butter & jelly and a cold glass of milk. Who could ask for more at Disney? My husband could not have been happier and the waitress was in stitches. It never hurts to ask.

Just went to tea there on Monday with my husband and daughters for my youngest's birthday . I had preordered the slipper desserts for my two girls (ages 6 and 8). The manager brought them out as soon as we were seated (as I requested)and announced loudly at tea, "Now we know everyday at Walt Disney World is special, but today is extra special because it's Jessica's sixth birthday!" My six year old was beaming and the envy of all who saw the slipper desserts. My husband ordered the Prince Edward Tea with a glass of port and really loved it. He was fine with it even though he is an ex-Marine, Linkin Park music lovin guy! God bless him for accomodatting us girly girls!!!princess:

Tricia...when did you ask for the Slipper dessert? When you made ps or at another time? I'm thinking of doing this in late Nov. Think my dd, 11, will love it.

Another question....do you guys all do one of the packages or just order everything piece by piece? The Buckingham Palace Tea looks pretty nice but wanted to get some other insights. And about how long are you there? It says 2-4:30 I think (or was is 2:30-4??) That's a long time for tea. Thanks guys.
