They may not be. I'd suggest going to a store that stocks a variety of different brands of athletic shoes. Get your feet measured. Try on a variety of different brands/models. Pick the one that feels best on your feet. Take them home and wear them for many hours each day before you head to WDW.
Recommendations from others about what works best for them won't help you because there is such a variation between individuals. Height, weight, length of stride, size foot, etc. In addition within shoe brand the individual models themselves will vary.
DW & I go to a store that specializes in athletic shoes. They have staff that really understand what is required for your feet and how you plan to use the shoes (walking, running, hiking, etc.) They aren't cheap (usually around $150) but we've never regretted spending the money for the quality. WDW can be brutal on feet, get something nice that will have some support and comfort.
I wear Vans and DC's most days but I also wear Teva Forebay sandals. They are not open toe. more like a semi closed toe so they protect your feet and breath really well. They also dry fast. I wear them to Disney with zero foot pain and no blisters with no socks. I also wear lightweight Nike running shoes. Both are super comfy on long days.
Good pair of running shoes that fit your foot and walking gate well. I personally love nike air pegasus zoom and have 6 pairs, its the only shoe I wear at disney!
Getting fitted at as running store is also a good idea.
Just another point to add to the above, be sure to have two pair of good shoes when you go to WDW. Its always a good idea to rotate shoes day to day, plus there's a good chance you'll get rained on while there and need a dry pair.
