15 Days!

So we are looking at doing the Memory Maker. The main reason is because, while we always get a lot of great photos on vacation, very few of them have both of us in them and I would really like some good photos with both of us.

So my question is: how do we plan around the Photopass thing? Are there usually lines? Are they long? Are some times of day better than others? We have quite a few meet & greets scheduled but I'm more concerned about the other shots--you know, in front of the castle or the tree of life or other such things.

I'm sort of excited about the prospect of these photos. Do people have any tips on how to best utilize this service?

TIA

Try to get an idea of your must do shots - there are sites that list all of them. You can fit those in when you're in the right area. Other than that, just stop for photographers when you see them and feel like it. In popular spots, there are usually multiple photographers.

Without any planning, we manage to get a couple hundred photos over the course of a trip. And so many good ones it's hard to narrow down into a photo book.

We went all out getting photopass pics on our last trip. Most of it was spur of the moment when we saw a photographer we jumped right in. When you’ve already paid for it you want to get your money’s worth. We sometimes had to wait a few minutes for a photographer for the most popular pics, in front of the castle particularly.
We have so many good family photos from memory maker that it was worth it. I really liked the one in front of the Adventureland sign. We also got a really good one at the Epcot Xmas tree.

Check out this link for new props:

We also did more character meets that trip so we have all those photos as well.
Don’t forget to scan your magic band in the photo areas for some of the rides with older technology.

Make sure you ask every photographer about 'magic shots' as well. I overuse Memory Maker because the only way I can get a picture with my 17 year old daughter is MM. On our last vacation between 7 of us we took over 5000 pictures, Outside of MM I am in 11 ( I counted ). Getting people in my family to take pictures of us is almost impossible.

Just got back and saw several photographers just standing around with no one to snap photos of and when we went past that part of the park again, the line was crazy long. Guess it's hit or miss so if you see a long line, skip it and try again later unless it's a must-have shot for you.

I am a little bit crazy with getting the pictures taken. My family hates it. I have a few to prove their dislike of how many pictures I make them get. If i see a photographer I stop. Most of the time it is no more then a few minutes if that late. For the castle or tree of life or the "golf ball" there are a little bit longer lines but there are many of then taking the pictures that it goes fast. For those I may wait to get them. The worst time will be at rope drop so we go back mid day when we leave for our mid day break.

Looks like we'll be getting Memory Maker for our trip this coming January (anyone interested in a share? ;)). Thanks to this thread, I have visited the sites to formulate a plan of our "must have" shots, and I know to be on the lookout for various magic shots. Having never purchased MM before, is it unlimited pictures for the length of our trip? I read that we can immediately download the photos, but that they were low-resolution. Does anyone k ow how low the resolution is? Would I have to go through Disney and order prints/electronic copies if we wanted any HIGH-resolution images??

They are pretty high resolution. Looking at ours from last trip, they are usually about 3-5MB each and 4000x6000pixels, with Dinosaur and Test Track at about 8MB

Very interested in this too as it will be our first time using Memory Maker. I've got to sit down and look at all of the opportunities and make a list of our "must do" places and characters. I'm both excited and a bit stressed out by it, LOL.

Mom and I have already realized we need to start planning our outfits. Of course, with no idea what the weather will be like, that can be difficult.

Christmas Minnie ears will be the first purchase upon arrival.

Awesome. Yes, I would say 24MP makes for a nice photo. Thanks for the info!

We’re there January 27-feb 4 and definitely interested in a share, although I’ve never had memory maker before and not totally familiar with how shares work.

The pictures are hi resolution, definitely. And if you have a lot, a tip as an alternative to having to download hundreds of pictures. When you get the pix the way you like them (borders, stickers, etc) and are sure all of them are there, then order the Archive CD when you get home. For $30, it will include all of your pictures and videos, and also a second disk with a lot of very nice stock photos of all the parks and resorts (fireworks, scenic shots, etc). Well worth the money, imho.

Memory Maker entitles you to 30 days of downloads from when you do the first download and "activate" the entitlement. So depending on your timing this should cover at least one trip, and some people can make it work for 2 when you add in the timer before the pictures expire.

The resolution of the picture is pretty good, but will depend somewhat on a) any cropping you do on Photopass b) the camera used. Some of the ride cameras are lower resolution, but most of the photographers themselves have good quality cameras (think they may still have 2 or 3 different models of Nikon DSLR) that will easily print a 11x14 or so w/o cropping, fully cropped a 4x6 is about as far as I would push it. The downloads are the full res based on the pictures. So an uncropped photographer picture will usually be a much higher res than a heavily cropped ride photo. But the Memory Maker downloads aren't what I would call low-res.

Does it influence the quality wether you choose 4*6 or 8*10 for the size? I got a 4*6 download from a friend and it was 2048*1365 and about 350k. That not super high-res and its a meet and greet pic. Not a ride pic.
