Memory Maker Card

We last went to Disney World in Dec. '13, and didn't stay on site so we didn't have Magic Bands. This Friday, we're going back and staying at CSR; we received our Magic Bands already. We also decided to do Memory Maker, since all we ever have are selfies of me and DH with snippets of random locations you can barely make out behind us! Today, I got a card in the mail for Memory Maker... but I thought that it was loaded on to your Magic Bands so you could just use that with the Photo Pass photographers. Is the card necessary? Is there another step beyond purchasing Memory Maker on MDE that I need to take to activate anything on the bands? I'm a little confused. My guess is that it's just an extra layer of security in case your bands don't work etc.

They send the cards just in case you are not staying on site - we recieved the card last year as well. There is no other step - just have them scann your band and enjoy the pictures!
