Memories of the DREAM come true ….. 08/09 All 30 days done!

Great begining !!! Karin I am gonna ask about a February Disney Cruise , I think ther thing that will prevent it is the weather and getting 8 people to sign up by then !!But hey it is worth a shot !! After the EXCITING news I did get at our meeting today I feel there is a slight chance of the cruise:banana::banana:

Since i'm still home due to my leg now i got something magical to read the before we met , the day we met , the days we had many laughs ,the days we had fun , the day we had Ice cream , then the sad:sad2:day but now we have more magical friends .

Hooray, you're off! And I much appreciate that you post the food pics 'just for me'. ;)

Terrific beginning, Karin! Love how you always include the plane take off, in the air, food and landing! :)

Might we look forward to a PTR of the Feb trip??? ;)

Hi Karin, and Tom! Just found your TR, and since we were on a little bit of it with you (your 2nd part of your b2b2b dream) I need to subscribe!!! :goodvibes

I am so happy you found us!
I definitely remember you from our cruise and hope that we will cruise again together in the future ...... that's one beautiful ship, isn't it? :goodvibes

Can't believe how far y'all have to travel for all your Disney trips!! I think it is so cool that you like Disney so much.

Yip, the things we do to get to Disney! ;) and the long flight is one of the reasons we like to stay for such a long time. :thumbsup2

Hi Karin! Your travel days must be so exhausting. How long are you actually traveling, including airport time? The time change must be very hard too. (We have pretty difficult travel days as well because we live in a very small town with limited air access and end up having to fly to a city, spend the night, and then fly to Orlando the next day. Only a 3-hour time change though.)

Travel days tend to be long and tiring, and then you have to take into consideration that we have a 6 hour time change as well. Takes a while to get ajusted to it.
Travel time from leaving our house to arriving at OKW last summer were 18 hours, very long hours! ;)
And do I ever know about the limited air access. Our airport is very small too and we need to take a stopover in Frankfurt, where we have to run from one end of the airport to the other ....... NO fun! :sad2:

It would be awesome, if you could cruise in February as well! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you, Rosie!

Thank you, Christine!
Since travel days are so long it just seems right to include the flight as well! And you know how I "feel" about food. :rotfl2:

You can be sure there will be a combined pre-trip report for our February and summer trip any time VERY soon! ;) :woohoo:

Day 1, August 13

Let the memories begin - Part 2

I had a glass of Coke and Tom had a can of German beer. About an hour later they started serving lunch.
There is a running gag between Tom and me, what lunch will be. Will it be chicken or pasta?
So we sat and waited and burst into laughter when the flight attendant asked the people to our right if they wanted chicken or pasta. And then we were handed our trays.

There was a

IMG_0580.jpg

vegetable mousse triangle served with tomato sauce as the starter, Tom had

IMG_0583.jpg

the chicken with potatoes and pepper medley, while I had

IMG_0586.jpg

the Garganelli Arabiata, which were both pretty good. For dessert we had

IMG_0581.jpg

chocolate mousse cake in a red fruit coulis and there was no way we would let the crisp rolls go to waste, so we had them with a little bit of unsalted butter and a piece of very young Camembert. When we had finished our lunch we were about 2 hours into our flight and it was time to help the time pass faster, so we both took some sleeping aid, put on our headphones and hoped that the on board movies would help us to go to sleep. And after some time we really dozed off.
I woke up every now and then, grabbed a glass of water from the tray the flight attendants offered and went back to sleep. Around 2 ½ hours before we were supposed to land I could not sleep any more and watched a little more of the on board entertainment before we were all handed hot towels and dinner was served.

IMG_0587-1.jpg

This time there was no choice and we were both handed a tray with a plate full of

IMG_0593-1.jpg

spinach tortellini filled with ricotta and served with a light cheese sauce and some chunky tomato sauce. For dessert we were offered

IMG_0589.jpg

IMG_0590.jpg

IMG_0595.jpg

some rice-cream, one apple and one vanilla, but we both don’t really like the consistency and just ate a few spoonfuls of it.

IMG_0588.jpg

The roll was cold and crumbly so I just had a few bits of it. Once we had finished dinner we were getting close to Orlando

IMG_0596.jpg

and we both got pretty excited when we saw the NASA assembly building from up above.

IMG_0599.jpg

About 40 minutes later we landed in Orlando. Luckily we got off the plane fast and quickly walked towards immigration.
When we arrived there we were shocked that the large hall was virtually empty and we could just walk through the lines, then were pointed towards an officer and in no time we were picking up our luggage and went through customs. :woohoo: There was just one more hurdle on our way to Walt Disney World, picking up our rental car.
Once we had hauled our luggage downstairs we saw that there were a lot of people in line for Dollar and Alamo, but yippie, only 3 people ahead of us at the Hertz counter.

To be continued ..........

I am so glad you liked the shirts. I hope to see a picture of the two of you in them! :thumbsup2
Claire and I made the cookie mix you got her not long after I got home and they were really yummy! She wanted me to go back and get more. LOL!

It always amazes me how long you travel to get here. At least you have decent meals on the flight.

Still cannot get over the fact that you get things like Camembert on your trips from Europe! :thumbsup2

How cool that you could see the NASA assembly building!! Wow!! Looks like you had some great meals too on the way....I miss meals on planes....we never get them anymore:confused3

The shirts are wonderful - I just washed them and put them aside for our February trip! (too cold here to wear them now) They are coming "home" with us! ;)

As for the long travel time, all I can say is ........... "the things we do for Mickey!" :rotfl2:

How ARE the meals on the plane? I bet you couldn't wait for Disney food! ;)

The meals on the plane were actually pretty good. And even if it doesn't look like it, there is enough food to get you through the flight! :thumbsup2
But nonetheless, Mickey food is always better, isn't it?

I could not believe my eyes when I looked to my left and saw the assembly building! I just HAD TO take a photo.
The meals were pretty good, apart from the rice cream, which I do not like in the first place, nothing to do with the product. :lmao:
It's a shame that you have to bring something on the plane or otherwise go hungry .... here they even give you a snack on a short 55 minute flight! :thumbsup2

Day 1, August 13

Let the memories begin - Part 3

Once we had hauled our luggage downstairs we saw that there were a lot of people in line for Dollar and Alamo, but yippie, only 3 people ahead of us at the Hertz counter.
Again, we got in line and within a few minutes we were talking to an agent who assigned us a car and sent us off to find it in the garage opposite the airport.
While we were still trying to figure out where to look for our rental car a Hertz employee approached us and told us that we were already standing in front of our car – a Mustang Convertible, just what Tom had hoped for. :woohoo: We loaded some of our stuff in the trunk and the rest went onto the back seat. About an hour after we had landed we were heading off the airport and towards Walt Disney World. :goodvibes
It didn’t take long and we could see that all too well known sign that meant we had reached our vacation destination.

IMG_0600.jpg

We went straight to Old Key West to check in and even though there were several Cast Members helping other guests, one of the Concierges came over to help us check in.
Since we had done online check in, everything was prepared and we were handed our keys and told that they had honoured our request and put us on the second floor of a two storey building.
We walked back to the car, drove to Old Turtle Pond Road and found our first vacation home. After checking it out we carried our luggage upstairs and then headed back to the car to pick up some dinner. Our first stop was Publix to stock up on the “bare” essentials.
Some bread, salads, tortilla chips and salsa, some extra dressing and some drinks, Coke for me and a few different beers for Tom. Once we had everything in the car we drove over to Downtown Disney.
Somehow we had misplaced Tom’s annual pass, so we went straight to Guest Relations to have it replaced. We were both so surprised at how easy it was to have a new one issued. All it took for them was my AP to get his number, as they were purchased at the same time and a photo ID. Once Tom had his new AP in hand we bought a new Tables in Wonderland card, said our happy goodbyes and off we went to Wolfgang Puck’s Express.

IMG_0604-1.jpg

There we ordered a Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich with Basil pesto, romaine, plum tomatoes and chips

IMG_0603-1.jpg

and a Warm Turkey Melt Sandwich with Cheddar, caramelized onions and honey mustard dressing for take-away. Dinner in hand we decided that we needed a sweet treat as well, since our first day had started so perfectly. Off we went to Krispy Kreme and low and behold the “Hot Now” sign was on and we picked up

IMG_0607.jpg

half a dozen glazed doughnuts and

IMG_0606.jpg

a dozen doughnut holes, ordered a Diet Coke and had our first doughnut right there and then. Around 10pm we arrived back at our villa, laid the table and enjoyed our dinner. We unpacked the carryon cases, then settled on the couch in front of the TV for a while until we were too tired and went to bed.

To be continued ..........

Sweet! A Mustang convertible AND hot Krispy Kremes in one day!!! It doesn't get much better, huh?

;) Now that I come to think of it ........ last year they were out of convertibles and we were upgraded to a Camaro :rotfl2: for four weeks :lmao:............ but to be honest - we loved our Mustang convertible and the hot Krispy Kremes were just the icing on the (vacation)cake! :thumbsup2

Wow our favorite way to begin a WDW vacation with WPE!!! I kind of take the Krispy Kremes for granted since I can buy them at work for a quarter. I get the Creme filled with chocolate icing, yummy.:)

Yes, starting a vacation off with some WPE food is the best! :thumbsup2
I envy you so much for being able to have Krispy Kreme whenever you feel like it ....... I never had the Creme filled ones with chocolate icing - guess we need to drive there before we head to Port Canaveral for the cruise! :lmao:

The convertible was very nice as was your Home away from Home !!!!

I am so happy you liked them both, Rosie! Nothing like sharing with our DISbuddies! :goodvibes
