Memorial Day weekend crowds?

I'm terribly sorry for the confusion. I was asking about the Memorial Day that occurs in May, closer to the end of school than the beginning.

DOH! That was MY confusion! For some reason I was thinking you said Labor Day! We've never been there that late in May. We are going next week again, and that is a good time to go for crowds and weather.

I am also curious to hear more personal experiences about Memorial Day weekend 'cuz we're going for the first time too. Wondering how it compares to mid-summer crowds?! I've got a feeling it's a busy one for locals...we're only going for 4 nights so I feel like we're going to be pushed to go commando to fit everything in if the lines are long!!

I have only been in WDW for one actual Memorial day weekend, many years ago, and the MK was very crowded and it was very hot. However, compared to the real busy times like NYE, well, it wasn't that crowded.

Our DCL cruise ends on Sunday of Memorial weekend, and all most of my family wants to do that day is enjoy Kidani's pool! A few of us will go over to Epcot to see the Fifth Dimension! We have an early ADR, and I expect we'll have to wait in a long line to get into the last show.

We agree with bobbiwoz.

Parks are busy. We were told it was due to southern schools (especially Florida) getting out earlier than northern schools. By Memorial Day all Florida Schools are supposed to be out and they seem to all want to go to Disney.

Also that weekend or the previous week is alternative lifestyle week at Disney and you get a good deal of volume from people getting together to enjoy their lifestyle and companionship.
Oh and don't worry, they don't bite or bother anybody so don't be afraid.;)

We have gone down a few times at that time of the year and it is very nice, not too hot yet and the crowds aren't too bad at that time either.

That is what I've read as well...I'm just hoping it's less than JULY crowds!!

I believe that is usually the first week / weekend in June. Before DS was in school we went down in early June to try to avoid the mid-summer crowds that peak after the northern schools get out and we hit that particular group. Large groups like that can really make for a lot of additional crowds but they do tend to stick together & all go to the same park on the same day. So if you can find out what their game plan is you can go to the other parks instead and avoid some of the overcrowding...

We are really looking forward to the May weather in FL...I've heard it's not quite as humid yet!

We like to go Memorial Day week. Once you get past the weekend, the crowds are MUCH smaller. It is more crowded if it coincides with Star Wars but we find generally it is a great time to be there - especially Tuesday through Friday. Plus the weather isn't bad and still the Flower and Garden Festival.

My wife and I were there over Memorial Day weekend in 2007. We expected to find heavy crowds, but we were surprised at how heavy they really were. It seems to be a popular weekend for Florida residents as well. Ride and food lines were very long, and dining reservations were very hard to get. We ended up spending most of our time staying local at the pool. From that point on, we've done our best to avoid holiday weekends there.

YAY:cool1: I am so happy to hear you say that! My husband and I are 'sneaking' away (without DD) May 27-30 and I was starting to get nervous about the crowds. We usually go in January so that time of year is what we are used to, I'm sure it will be more crowded than in January, but at least it won't be unbearable! So excited to see all the displays in Epcot!:yay:

Its called Gay Days and it's in June. For 2009 it's June 2 - 8.

Also, I'm not sure you intended it or not, but being gay really isn't a lifestyle, lifestyle is usually in reference to personal choices of a group, being Gay really isn't a choice.

We are going May 21-29th. We booked this time to try AKV - Kidani. We kinda thought crowds would come in to play this time of year. For this trip, we are planning just to relax and enjoy the resort. We'll go to the parks, but I won't get too upset if its crowded.

Liking this thread. Planning trip in May of 2010 and really would like to know what the crowds are like.
