i wanted to check on something complicated.

i believe it has been mentioned on these boards that if you happen to be a member who bought 2 separate Use Years, that there is some leniency with the transfer rules when you transfer between your own accounts.

for example, if you own 150pts Feb UY.
the status of your Feb contract is: 72 points from 2/03 that you banked into your 2/04 UY. all your virgin 2/04 UY points are used up (maybe you borrowed them).

then you have 150pts Sep UY: all 9/03 points are gone. but all 9/04 points are there.

you want to book a GV at BWV for 3 weeknights in Sep 2004. this costs 74pts/night.

so you can use up 148 Sep/04 points to book the first 2 nights.

then you need to combine your 72 Feb points with the 2 leftover Sep points to book the last night.
so in this case, are you allowed to transfer the 72 Feb points to your Sep contract even though those are banked points?

does anyone actually have first hand experience with this kind of transaction? i imagine this is a very complex situation that most Member Services agents may not be familiar with.

(btw i am asking about this because i was wondering about the logistics of owning contracts with different UYs. i was thinking about what possible problems that owners of different UYs might encounter)

The short answer is yes you will be allowed to transfer the points even though they are banked.

In general, single owners of multiple contracts go by the same rules. MS does have significant flexibility when dealing with the situation you describe. It is handled on a case by case basis. This situaiton plus the circumstance where all points must be in one accound are the two that come to mind where MS will allow this (example, cruises and other exchange options).

I am the owner of two different use years, all BWV, and I have been told on at least one occasion that I couldn't combine borrowed points. I agree it depends on the CM you get and sometimes you just need to call back. I keep a detailed spreadsheet to keep the two contracts clear. Quite honestly if I knew then what I know now I would have waited (on resale) for the same use year rather than have to deal with two.

Practice these words when talking to MS. "I understand than MS has signficant flexibility when working with multiple contracts of a single owner". The front line people will see the written rules and not know the exceptions in many cases. I've had to ask to have it to happen but have never had a problem in maybe 10 different situations.
