Hi,

After several years of talking about it, DH and I had finally decided to use our points to take a 4 day cruise in Oct of 2008. We've always debated whether it's a good use of points, but we love cruising and have never done a Disney cruise. Well, we have enough points to take the cruise and still have our Disney vacations so we decided to take the plunge. Now the monkey wrench, they just announced the member cruise. For those of you who have done both, would you suggest doing the member cruise instead? We like to vacation in October so we were planning on getting our AP's and vacationing Oct 08/May09/Oct09. If we do the member cruise we would probably just buy a two day pass and do Food and Wine and buy our AP's in May of 09. It'll be a little more costly so we're trying to determine if the member cruise is worth it. I just think it would be a blast to meet other members. Any advice would help.

Hey,

I have basically the same question. We are brand new DVC members and LOVE to cruise. We have been on many, many cruises but never Disney.

1. Is the Member Cruise Price in Points a good deal vs. a regular Disney ceuise using points, or vs. just booking a Disney Cruise of the same length for cash?

2. Every other cruise we have been on goes to several ports. The Disney Member Cruise goes to a Disney Private Island, then back to the same place again?

We woud have two adults and a 2 year old (3 in April 2008).

thanks,
Steve

We love the Member Cruises but I'll be the first to admit they aren't for everyone. For one thing they are more costly than a regular cruise at the same time.

So if you are just looking for the cruise experience then I would say skip the Member Cruise and go with another one.

However if you are a true Disney nut who likes to hear and see the history of Disney than I would recommend the Member Cruise. They always bring on the best guests.

Also the Member Cruises tend to cater to adults more than kids - at least guests wise. Something else to keep in mind.

Hope this helps.

the points we had.

By the time you put the insurance and the gratuities and the other "extras" there was still alot of cash out and paying $$ for the cruise looked like a better use of points.

Especially since you could rent out your points and pay for a cruise (with $$ in hand).

Anyone see it that way now?
