Mel's Unflashy June 2008 TR: Funnel cakes have fewer calories in FL. Updated 12/2!!

An update!!! :cool1: :cool1:

But I can hardly get past eating man's best friend for dinner....

I think KC would like the para sailing but not me...no heights thank u!

Hope Gus is feeling better!

oooohhh, parasailing looks like soooo much fun!! i will def do that one day.

what was the girl's problem??? i mean most guys do have hairy legs!! where they normal hairy or like robin williams hairy??? :lmao:

people are weird!!

And I'm first!!!

Parasailing looks skeery to me! :scared: So does your burger. :scared: :scared:
I think I got a wrap when we went. It was a nice change to burgers. :thumbsup2

I hope your baby's feeling better.

Yes! Dawn is first! I'm not handing out funnel cakes this time. Did anyone tell Dawn that? :rotfl2:
My burger is NOT skeery. It's delicious. Sheesh.

Gus is NOT better, but he's not barfing, so good!

I`m second!! But I was first when I started reading it and the phone rang.

Great update Mel! I think I would love Parisailing! it seems like fun..I bet the view is fabulous! cant wait to see the rest of the pictures of it.
Do you think maybe that couple were Brother and Sister?

Oh, sure Carrie.....uh-huh. ::yes::

Thanks! He said the view was pretty great!

We considered the bro/sis thing but we just WEREN'T sure....it was odd.

Glad I checked back after getting home from working out! Great update, Mel. I was thinking the same thing about the other couple that went parasailing. But then again, why would they do it in tandem if they were siblings that didn't like each other? That's really weird.

Can't wait to hear UnBob's side of the story. I'm sure the other pics and video are awesome!

Hope Gus is feeling better, Mel!

The pics are really good! I can't wait for him to get back and post his part!

I don't know why anyone would do a TANDEM ride if they hated each other. And, even considering sibling rivalry and all that, it was a bit OVER the TOP! She was totally grossed out.

Thanks, I'll let Gus know everyone's rooting for him!

EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!! :crazy2:

Think she trampolines with him? I mean, if they're that revolting paragliding, trampolining must be interesting...

:lmao: Welcome to my world Mel!

I can't imagine HOW she would trampoline with him. God, the poor man. He must have a total complex over his hairy legs....

Yeah, see! V gets it! I'm like, uh maybe I got the bread pudding. No, no that was Xmas last year.....huh.....

You're welcome

How very strange

Sounds lovely Mel

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Oh no hope he gets better

true :rotfl2:

Thanks for reading Jo, while you should be packing!! LOL

An update!!! :cool1: :cool1:

But I can hardly get past eating man's best friend for dinner....

I think KC would like the para sailing but not me...no heights thank u!

Hope Gus is feeling better!

Yeah. He said the dog tasted like chicken. I don't know if he was being funny though. :confused3

Next time let's make KC and Bob go parasailing tandem.....NO Wait.....does KC have really hairy legs? LOL :rotfl2:

oooohhh, parasailing looks like soooo much fun!! i will def do that one day.

what was the girl's problem??? i mean most guys do have hairy legs!! where they normal hairy or like robin williams hairy??? :lmao:

Bwwhahahahahahahaahahahaha OMG Rach, I almost peed.

Golly, Rachel is FUNNY!!!

Ok, gotta type the next part!!!
LY guys!

MEL

OMG to the weird couple (?) - that is amazing, and how annoyed must he have been to listen to her the whole time?

I'm sorry you kept getting on and off things. ;)

Great update! Looks like fun!

So, two updates in ONE day! Doesn’t that rock??? Go me!!!
As, Mel Happyhaunt would say, “So, that’s SICK! Whatever that means!”
LOL

The hotel room (aka “villa”) was pretty messy when we got back to see the kids. I mean, we needed to do laundry, there was a pile of stuff by the front door from when we had gone to Vero, there were dishes to load up into the dishwasher, etc. My house (my real HOME) is clean most of the time. Firstly, I don’t have little kids messing it up anymore and second, I have the OCD. (I say that in my head in the voice that Jewish Mothas use when they HISPER (thanks T) to their friends about someone having “the cancer.”) BUT, for some reason when I’m on vacation I can’t manage to pick up the littlest things! Oh well.

I wanted to hang out there and clean it up so it wouldn’t be such a pigsty but the boys pressured me into going to the pool. I got the suit on, and went out to the small quiet pool near the clubhouse. Bob decided to swim with the boys and I made an executive decision and left them there. I wanted a drink! I walked around the corner to the big pool (skeery clown slide, anyone?) and the pool bar. I bellied up and ordered a raspberry mojito. OH! SO delicious! Then I ordered another! :drinking1 :drinking1

By the time I stumbled back over to the quiet pool, Bob was looking a bit irritated. He wasn’t but he WAS needed a drink so he informed me that it was HIS turn. I think he got Long Island Ice Teas. They are too strong for me!

When we finally got back to the room it was nearly 4 pm. Luckily, it was at this late hour that I remembered that Gus and Bob had a 4:30 pm tee time! OMG. I dialed the number quickly and then begged them NOT to charge me for it because I had totally forgotten! They were nice enough to cancel it and not charge us. The boys would really like to golf in WDW sometime soon, but I don’t know when that will be. It’s always so stinkin’ hot when we’re there!

The boys had decided that they were starving and that none of our pre-purchased from Garden Grocer food was good enough. I tried really hard to impress upon them the not having ADR’s issue, the size of the wait they’d have to complete to get in anywhere WITHOUT the ADR’s etc etc, but they weren’t having it. I called Disney Dining and tried. Nada. We finally ended up here, because they didn‘t have even a minute wait:
100_1433.jpg

Well, the food was pretty blah. :snooty: I had to go back over to AllEars and find their menu so I could even remember what we ate. Sad. :sad2:
I know we had the Hummus appetizer. Bob ordered Beer cheese soup and something else. I think SD had the burger and I had Hazelnut chicken. I don’t remember what Gus ate. It was all very, eh. The service was bad though and they have you CRAMMED in so tight we could barely raise our elbows to eat! Let’s leave it at that. I was not a fan.

After dinner we decided to walk around the Boardwalk for a bit. There were TONS of people setting up booths, a dj setting up on the lawn behind the hotel, an a bunch of kiosks. I never did figure out what the hubbub was but they were handing out backpacks to the kids, doing facepainting, handing out glowstix, doing games and dancing on the lawn to the dj music. It looked fun but like most things in WDW it was positively TEEMING with small ones! :rainbow: That’s the way it should be so don’t get me wrong, but it does make it hard for anyone “bigger” to join in.

We decided to rent the four person surrey bikes. Everyday of our trip so far, we’ve seen people riding around in these! They looked like so much fun and we had no plans once we were done with dinner! The price was reasonable. I don’t recall how much but it wasn’t too bad. You get the bike for 1/2 an hour at a time. We piled in (Me and Bob in front - kids in back) and they gave us some instructions! I think it was like this: You can go all the way around the lake. Here is the brake. Use the bell/horn to let people know you’re coming and don’t go counter-clockwise around the lake. That’s it. Four rules. :scratchin

We started peddling through the crowd. It was incredibly hard to keep a slow pace on the flat ground and the people! WoW! It was crowded around the ESPN area and I was amazed at the number of people that would hear our bell, turn and look at us and then just continue on without altering their path at all. Weird. :confused3 The ride was fun, even perilous and then the hill came. There is the tiniest incline as you go over a bridge (towards the International Gateway) and let me tell you, IF you ever rent a surrey bike you will understand me when I say: OUCH!!! I suspect that climbing the 616 huge rock steps leading to the Norwegian Hardangervidda Plateau would be easier than peddling 4 large, well-fed Americans over that dang bridge. The kids bailed out half-way up. Leaving Bob and I to huff and puff our way over. They jumped back on for the ride down the other side! We did switch spots, thinking it would be easier. Nope.

On the Beach Club side of the lake, a very nice lady wanted to take our picture. We thanked her and posed! :artist:
100_1434-1.jpg

She wanted to get some “scenery” in the picture too, so we did another....
100_1435.jpg

We drove off to complete our ride and hit ANOTHER bridge! I’m sure this one was more steep but Bob said it wasn’t. The boys had completely given up by this time. Bob and I had fun going down the other side of the hill though. Then we peddled back through the crowds and when we reached the place to return, the guy said we still had 15 minutes! The boys had abandoned us completely by then, so we peddled off to the where the bridge started. I didn’t want to go up the hill so we broke the “Surrey Bike Law” and rode counter-clockwise back to the return! LOL. Only four little rules and we broke one. Law-breakers!

Here are a couple of photos of the boys all tuckered out!!!

100_1436.jpg

100_1437.jpg

It’s hard to believe that we could cram one more second of fun into this evening but we did! :jumping1: We stopped at the small store and bought beer/snacks/wine and then rented a movie from the Clubhouse. We got back to the room and watched Armageddon with the boys. They really enjoyed it. I always cry at the end. When the movie was finished we grabbed a drink and a spare and then tucked the boys in. We went out onto our balcony and enjoyed a wonderful adult beverage! Ah, another day done in paradise!

Sadly, we have to get up EARLY tomorrow because it’s:

Dum, Dum Da-Dum Dum Da-Dum Duh Dum.....

STAR WARS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. Wookies. Droids. Ewoks. Clones.

:ewok: :chewy: :darth: :yoda:

Look how happy and not sick Gus looks! :guilty: It makes me sad that he doesn't feel good. Poor kid.

You are always breaking some rule, aren't you? ;)

Ooooh! I only need 3 posts to make it to 4000!

So, I thought I'd also say that I would hate to be in the rooms right above that restaurant. It's probably stinky and loud. :headache:

OK I just don't have it in me for another update....You win!

Sounds like a really great night tho!

Woo hoo!! 2 updates in one!!! :cool1:

Good for you for not cleaning up the room and going out to spend some pool time with the boys! :cloud9: even better that you squeezed in 2 drinks!! :yay: you go girl!!!!
Why didnt you try ESPN for dinner? yummy and fun!!
I had to giggle when I read the part about the bikes!!! :rotfl: We had time to kill on our last day at Riverside, and thought that would be a fun family thing to do. not so much!!! those suckers are hard!! and the 2 boys in back were no help AT ALL!!! We also had a 3 year old in the basket. :headache: now its a joke for us,,every trip we pass one and we all say a big NO! And giggle.

The boys would really like to golf in WDW sometime soon, but I don’t know when that will be. It’s always so stinkin’ hot when we’re there!
I can't even imagine playing golf in the summer months down here, but I live on the edge of a country club and so help me, those guys are out there all day long! :faint:

We finally ended up here, because they didn‘t have even a minute wait:

MeMeMeMe!!! I need to hear all about this - I'm actually considering it in 2009...

:cool1: 2 updates, even though I am late. Forgive me?:flower3:

Parasailing looks awesome...if you're not afraid of heights:rolleyes1

Skinny girl/hair leg guy

Big Brewery Place - Have not heard good things about it:sad2: .

Gee, you broke a rule. Let me get my shocked smilie out:rolleyes:

BUT, for some reason when I’m on vacation I can’t manage to pick up the littlest things! Oh well.
I'm the opposite I can't stand the thought of the cleaners thinking I'm dirty :rotfl2:

Oh Mel you're such a rebel :rotfl2:

Finally!!! It was worth the wait Mel. I'm glad you are on the mend and it seems like everything is going smoother in Mel's world. Now we just need to get NotBob back in the States! Come on Saturday!

I'm sorry you didn't like BRG&BW. It was my #1 favorite TS dinner of our trip. Since there was only 2 of us, we sat on the bar side right in front of the window, alone! Our server was fantastic. All the other TS places we ate at were cramped. I guess they want to squeeze in as many as they can. (You really should pop over to my TR and check it out. Just sayin'!)

What's up with this rule breaking stuff. The Fockers are becoming quite the rebels. Pinching glasses, hiding alcohol, driving the wrong way on a one way......You know a friend would caution you to be careful, but a true friend will be right there sitting next to you saying, "Wasn't that a blast!"
:thumbsup2

I said that to Bob. Can you IMAGINE listening to her kvetch the whole time???!!!

those pics of you guys on the bike are awesome.

We were there for 8 days and it was mobbed the whole time pretty much. I was there briefly during FF and it looked busy then too. :confused3

Thanks! I liked those pictures too!

I am not surprised, smuggler-lady. :rotfl:

You do know that you're going to make Jen spew, don't you?

Who me? :rolleyes1

Oh, yeah! Sorry Jen! Don't want to make you spew. LOOK AWAY when I do the GEEK WEEKEND update....

Look how happy and not sick Gus looks! :guilty: It makes me sad that he doesn't feel good. Poor kid.

You are always breaking some rule, aren't you? ;)

Yeah, that's me. I'm a rule breaker. Wild Momma.

Ooooh! I only need 3 posts to make it to 4000!

So, I thought I'd also say that I would hate to be in the rooms right above that restaurant. It's probably stinky and loud.

Yay! 4000 posts....er um.....that was a while ago. Oh well. I'll celebrate 5000 with ya!

Yeah, it would have been both those things! That's a "premium view" too, I think....:confused3

OK I just don't have it in me for another update....You win!

Sounds like a really great night tho!

I win! Whooo me!!!

Thanks, it was fun. Gotta get over to your TR. I'm a bad friend. Sorry!

Woo hoo!! 2 updates in one!!! :cool1:

I can't even imagine playing golf in the summer months down here, but I live on the edge of a country club and so help me, those guys are out there all day long!

I know! Well, after almost dying in FL with Gus last summer, I can tell you I'd NEVER golf there!

Yep, that was my experience, too.
yeah, not good.

MeMeMeMe!!! I need to hear all about this - I'm actually considering it in 2009...

Yes! I forgot! You are a Star Wars fan! Yet another reason to love you, V...

JO! No one would think you're dirty! Silly girl!

yeah. I'm such a rebel. Bad example for the kiddos!

But that's the thing... with DVC, you don't get Mousekeeping, so there's no one to know that you're being messy! :thumbsup2

Right!

Finally!!! It was worth the wait Mel. I'm glad you are on the mend and it seems like everything is going smoother in Mel's world. Now we just need to get NotBob back in the States! Come on Saturday!

NotBob is HOME! Yay!!!! Happy Mel!!!

Weird. I have said many times, that you really can't go on ONE person's bad experience in WDW. I've had great meals at places that people hated (Hollywood and Vine) and I've had terrible meals at places people loved (50's Prime Time) Huh, must be a DHS thing...
Anyway, you never know!

NotBob is usually saying, "God Woman! What will you do next!?"

**********************
Thanks for all the Get Well wishes!

Gus is back to school FINALLY. SD is home today but he'll probably be back in school tomorrow (I hope!) Bob made it home from Japan! He's uploading some pics to Facebook soon, so I'll try to copy some and bring them here! MIL went back to FL today.

We hope to put up our Christmas Tree next weekend. Then maybe it will finally feel like the holidays! :santa:

Our next trip is in 1 month, 2 weeks!!!! Gosh, Hope I finish the darn TR before then! LOL.
I'm planning on departing from our regular trippie for a bit though. Before Bob does his Pear A'Sailing update, I'm going to post my ONE POST TR ON THE FOCKERFEST 2008. Poor Jodi has been waiting months for proof that she was really there with me in FLAT JODI form.

SO, hopefully I will get that up in a few days.
Thanks for hanging with me!

You guys rule.

MEL:woohoo:
