Meg Crofton's Speech Abilities

I'm watching the DIS coverage of Meg Crofton's speech from the event the other day. Anyone else thinks she needs to take some speech-giving classes? I'm not trying to start a heated thread; I'm just surprised at how stilted and uncomfortable it sounds. I'd think she'd have more poise and correct intonation. I can't get over at how UNEXCITED she sounds.

with the mess she has created, I am not surprised she is un-excited. TDO doesn't want the FL land expansion and probably doesn't actually want this summer nightastic thing either.

Imagine if we had leaders at WDW that were actually excited for the resort.

Al Weiss isn't much better. I'm beyond excited about all of these upcoming events and changes. I pretty much ignore all DCL news because we have never been on one of the cruises and haven't been that motivated to. With all of these things going on with the Disney Dream, that will be next. I'm definitely excited enough to look into it now.

DCL is a model of how everything Disney should be. I'm glad you're interested in the Dream because DCL shouldn't be overlooked.

you're right, Al Weiss isn't much better. The problem is they tout these executives as being with the company 20+ years, but those 20+ years were branded from Eisner. He changed the way executives run the company, so being with the company 20+ years just means doing it wrong for 20+ years.

Some folks are blessed with being able to speak well in front of others. Some are not. She probably has to do a fair amount of public speaking, but that is probably NOT the main focus of her job. I give ANYONE who speaks in front of large groups major props. It is a TERRIBLY difficult thing to do.

I speak in front of large groups for my job, and while I am used to it, it is ALWAYS intimidating to look out into a crowd and see all those people looking at you. I can only imagine that it was magnified for her with all the cameras. She is not just a figure head, so I am willing to excuse a less than stellar oratorical preformance.

Some people were blessed with the ability to speak in front of other people, some were not. I've seen some horrible leaders give wonderful speeches and some wonderful leaders give horrible speeches. It's one of those things that you can either do or not do well. She might be very excited about the changes coming, but does not have the ability to portray it.

Whether you like the decisions she makes our not you have to acknowledge that she must have shown promise as a leader to have made it to this point in her career.

As far as public speaking goes the previous poster is correct. I make a portion of my living public speaking (my wife finds it amazing that people actually pay money to hear me speak). I hope I do a good job, but I do know other people out there in my field that I consider total morons, but since they are gifted speakers people line up to listen to them.

I do agree she would benefit from some public speaking training. There is a big difference between talking to small groups (which is where all her prior experience likely is from) and giving a large multimedia presentation which will be played all over the world. You only have to look as far as Steve Jobs to see someone that has managed to harness the power of that kind of presentation.

All that said, I agree with Pete and wish someone else was in charge. It sounds like the new leadership at DL may be heading in the right direction and hopefully WDW will follow suit so Meg can go back to supervising the cleaning ladies.
