Meeting, Munching, and Merriment!-Updated 7/7-Can you believe I updated this again?

OK, so I’m starting this trippie again. I have to say, the rest of this may not have quite as much detail. I have some notes, and I have my photos, so let’s see what I can come up with, shall we? (The rest of the report may be a bit photo-heavy.)

Alright, I left off after our first full day and our big DIS meet. We are now on Saturday 9/29/07, MGM day. (And it WAS still MGM at that point in time. )

According to my notes, I got up at about 8am, got ready and checked DIS. We ended up driving over to MGM at about 10am, and we did a bit of shopping, got a locker for my monopod, and got a FP for ToT before heading over to 50’s Prime Time Café for lunch. Our ADR was at 11:00, and we must have been seated pretty promptly because the first photo in this installment was taken at 11:12am. It’s the fried herb cheese, and it was good!

That was DH’s appetizer, and I had the shrimp cocktail, which was…well, shrimp cocktail – nothing too exciting about it. Here it is…

Lunch for me was the pot roast, my favorite entrée at this restaurant – SO yummy!!!

207144619_2dsd5-M.jpg

I tried to be kinda good with dessert and got the angel food cake with strawberries. Pretty good, but I missed the s’mores.

Sorry, but I guess I didn’t photograph DH’s food, and I can’t remember what he had. It’s particularly confusing because we just ate there again on the May trip we just returned from.

Well, after lunch we headed over the big hat to check out the pins, and then we hit The Great Movie Ride. I had the new lens, and I got some pretty decent shots…

We did notice when we got seated in the ride vehicle that we were getting into the more forward vehicle (to your right when you walk into the loading area), and we had never been seated there before. When we hit the gangster scene, I noticed that the car was already pulled out. We had heard about the more rare cowboy scene, and at this point we were thinking that it might be happening. Sure enough, nothing happened in the gangster scene (If ya know what I mean. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t been on the ride before.) And instead, something did happen in the cowboy scene! :yay: ATTENTION: potential spoiler photos ahead!!! So here they are…

I think this effect is why they don’t run this scene as often as the gangster scene. Just seems like it would take more time to reset this one to me.

And a few more photos from the ride…

I have a great fondness for movies (I was going to school to be a director at one time after all.), so I do generally enjoy this ride, but it’s not as much of a must as some others. That being said, I REALLY enjoyed the cowboy scene. Part of it was probably just the thrill of seeing something like that we had only heard about, but I really like the scene too! :thumbsup2

After that excitement, we headed over to the Animation Studios. There we got in line to meet Remy and Emile. They were SO CUTE! :goodvibes And they liked my Pal Mickey. (Fellow rodent, ya know! ;)) They wouldn’t stop playing with him. I wasn’t sure we were going to get away from them, but I really enjoyed it. They were funny. They kept pushing Mickey’s tummy, and he ended up just vibrating…and it didn’t stop! They pointed at him and then held him against my arm. I told them they must have run his batteries down. They had been low anyway, I think. Or at least I told them that they were. I didn’t want them to feel bad. They were very good at what they do! ::yes:: Here’s the pics…

This one was when they were pulling in opposite directions - one of them with Pal Mickey, the other one with my hand.

While we were in the shop here, I talked to Wendy (Utahmama) on the phone. It was their MGM day too, but they were currently over at SSR doing the DVC tour. We agreed to talk again later when they were back at MGM and meet up.

Well, that’s all for now. I’ll start on part 2 of this day right away! I PROMISE! ;) Next up: Brown Derby, time with Wendy and the fam, and Fantasmic!!! :cool1:

I'm so glad you decided to finish your report. I love you mad picture taking skillz and heaven knows I need distractions right now.

Welcome Back Lynda!!!! You and Josh look AWESOME!!! You can really see the changes from your recent trip vs. these pics from your Sept. trip. Keep up the good work! :thumbsup2

Also, can't wait to see more. :hyper:

this was the scene we got stuck in the first time we rode it and the reason we've never ridden it again.......i still have nightmares of boggie saying that line over and over and over AND OVER again!!!!!! :scared1:

great update! so cool that you got to meet remy and emile. we saw that area when we were there in april and i was disappointed they weren't there then. can't wait to hear more! :thumbsup2

Great update. Your lunch looked very yummy. I've told you on the peep thread congrats on the weight loss but I'm going to say it again, because it's hard I know, I'm doing it too.

I'm so glad you decided to finish your report. I love you mad picture taking skillz and heaven knows I need distractions right now.

Hi Monica - I haven't seen you on the peep thread in awhile. Glad to "see" you.

Laura

OK, this installment took longer than I thought it would, BUT it didn't take as long as the last one did! :lmao: Anyway, on with it...

I left off just after I had talked to Wendy on the phone. After leaving the Animation Studio store, we headed over to Star Tours and grabbed a FP. We then headed to Muppetvision 3D while we waited for our FP to become active. After Muppets we went back and hit Star Tours. I had to take a pic of this shirt because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!

207147108_t6JRH-L.jpg

But I don’t wear a lot of T-shirts, and I rarely wear black T-shirts, at least not in the summer, so I just couldn’t justify buying it.

We talked to Wendy again, and her and the UM fam were headed back into the park. We met up with them right between the big hat and the main street. As we met up with them, a father and son approached us. DH thought they knew Wendy, but they didn’t. At any rate, he ended up offering the son a pin, which he accepted but asked, rather rudely, for a different one instead. DH agreed though, and the strangers left without saying thank you. Anyway, Wendy and her family had a couple of things they needed to get done before dinner and Fantasmic, so we headed off to take care of a couple of things ourselves.

I had a FP for Tower of Terror burning a hole in my pocket, so we went to cash it in. After that, we did a bit of shopping and then just sat on a bench near the Chinese theater to people watch since it wasn’t time for our Brown Derby ADRs yet. We finally headed over to Brown Derby, where we were greeted by some very friendly CM’s and seated pretty promptly from what I can recall.

We had good service and a nice meal. We wanted to try this place out, and I’m glad we did. We really enjoy Sci Fi and 50’s Prime Time, and we will probably continue to hit those more often than anything else at this park, but I would definitely return to Brown Derby. I actually think the appetizers were my favorite part of this meal. Here’s what we had.

DH's appetizer - Blue Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Potato Crust, savoy cabbage slaw, dijon mustard and remoulade sauces...YUM!
207147241_eGQbi-L.jpg

And mine - Barbecue Kurabota Pork Belly with teppan seared sea scallop, gingered butternut squash and crisp shallots - YUMMY!
207147373_Z3AQy-L.jpg

And this was my dinner, Grilled Atlantic Salmon on soft mascarpone polenta with gorgonzola, balsamic glaze and Sicillan olive tapenade - good, but filling! I couldn't finish it. (I needed room for dessert. :ssst: )
207147439_NxTD2-L.jpg

I don't know why, but I didn't take a pic of DH's dinner. :confused3

But here's dessert!

His, the Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower on cocoa almond cookie and bananas "foster"

And mine, the Grapefruit Cake - A Brown Derby Original! Light Layers of Yellow Cake with fresh Grapefruit Cream Cheese Icing
207147537_MSXsf-L.jpg

Both yummy. I wish I had either one of them right now.

After dinner, we headed over to the Backlot Tour, and when we were getting off the ride, it started to pour down rain – hard! We waited it out under cover of the studio catering company and the gift shop across the way, and as is the case so often in Florida, we didn’t have to wait too long, and we were on our way again.

We saw Wendy again, and I gave her one of the pins she needed that we had traded for. We did a bit of shopping, got some water and my monopod from the locker and had a seat while we waited for Wendy and her family to arrive at the Fantasmic package entrance up at the front of the park.

Once everyone had gathered, we headed down the path to the Fantasmic theater. We found a seat down front and on the right side and visited while waiting for the show to start. I don’t remember exactly what we talked about, but I have to say that we really enjoyed our time with Wendy and her family. Wendy – we miss you!

We also got to meet another DISer while we were waiting – celerystalker! It was so nice to meet you too. We chatted for a few minutes, and she had to rejoin the rest of her party.

And now, on with the show…

I do love this show!!! :goodvibes

After the show was over, we wandered out. Wendy was meeting up with yet another DISer, Mommy Poppins. And I got to meet another lovely DISer. We took our time wandering out of the park, and we said our good-byes to Wendy and her family. :sad1:

We hopped on the tram, got back to our van, and back to the hotel, where this was waiting for us...

Once there, I did a little DIS-ing, loaded my pics onto the computer, and had a snack, before turning in.

Up next…another DIS meet in honor of the closing of VMK Central at MK.

Great update. We ate at the Brown Derby many moons ago with a 2 year old :scared1: . We really didn't know how fancy it was until we started walking to our seat. But he was good and he loved his mickey mouse mac and cheese. Oh and the picture above is that a pal Mickey, me want one of those.

Great update! :goodvibes

The Brown Derby looks fantastic! It's always been in the back of my mind to try it, but we always end up eating elsewhere.

Your Fantasmic pics are wonderful! What a super show! :thumbsup2

It took me a while to get over here, but it looks like it's taking you a while to get this done. I love your TR so far. I am so jealous of your meet. I never get to meet anyone on this side of the country!:sad2: However, DH and I are headed to PA next week to meet some of the current (and former, black-listed) members of the Secret Green Club.
Your photos are phenomenal. Keep up the great work.
