Hi everyone,

I received the bag below in the mail today, in the color saddle in case you're interested. I've been dreaming of it since my early April cruise when I saw it in a store and I finally broke down and bought it online last week. Purses are my thing. I love them. And I really really want to use it. The problem, you ask? Well the geniuses at dooney and bourke locked the bag with the keys inside. So I can't open it! I called right away when I realized I could not get into the bag and they are sending a set that should be here by the end of the week. I'm moving though so I had it sent to my mom's since I will be down there on Sunday. But if possible I want to use it sooner - told you I love my bags! Can anyone offer a suggestion on possibly unlocking the bag without breaking anything? It seems like an easy lock to pick but I have no idea how to do so. I poked around with a bobby pin with no luck. I will just have to wait until this weekend to use her...she is taunting me.

I'm sorry, I'm no help....but I just had to laugh. :lmao: That totally sounds like something I would do!

A purse that needs a key to get into? That sounds like a pain in the butt to use.
I would have thought it was just decorative, not function. Dumb idea, sorry.

Such a cute purse but I am not sure I would want one that locks... Does it lock all the time? What if you locked your keys inside it, on your keychain? But it is cute!

I never considered myself a purse person until I saw that purse. I must have it. :worship:

Is there a department or other store in your area that sells D&B purses? If so I would take the purse and your proof of purchase in and see if they have a key to open it. Something like that the key would mostly likely be very generic.

Worth a shot.

Yes, I don't like the idea either. What if you go to pay a cashier and you realize you've locked your money, your car & house keys, your ID & ATM card, your purse key, :confused3 and your cell phone in your purse? :headache:

You can't call anyone, you have no money to take a cab home, even if you are able to get home, you can't get into the house. A neighbor calls the cops because they see someone trying to climb in a window. And you can't show a cop your ID to show you actually live there. :sad2:

I'm guessing the lock is fully functional but it's optional to use (i.e. you'd have to lock it on purprose). I've had purses like that before with a key, usually the key ends up in the bottom of a dresser drawer. Still, whomever locked it at the vendor's end probably needs a refresher :rolleyes1

That's too funny-- love DB bags though! Their nylon line is so practical and cute. Like PP said, I'd take it to a DB store and see if they can open it. Not sure if somewhere like Macy's would have a spare key around.

Thanks for the kind words.

It doesn't lock automatically-who has time for that. But with the key, you can lock it-which is what happened before it was shipped to me. The packers locked it with the keys inside. Trust me, once it's unlocked, I'll never use those keys again.

I called a couple stores and none of them sell these styles so now keys...guess I just have to wait.

She wasn't criticizing you. . . unless you are affiliated with Dooney and Bourke in some way. :confused3 Don't take it personally.

I saw a cute purse once that had a strap that flapped over and people literally had to close it with a belt buckle, sliding in the strap each time. There was no extra magnetic catch or quick snap underneath. That was a dumb idea too, unless someone was really going to buckle their purse each time they closed it.

I know...I tend to take things personally though. Especially taste in handbags which is sort of what I thought she was calling dumb, buying a bag like that. Of course I also read it after being woken up at 2:30 am by a storm and not being able to fall back asleep for awhile.

A belt buckle? Wow that would be a pain. Other than it currently being locked it's really not that hard to open. Just unlatch it. No different than a zipper really IMHO. I'm praying, yes praying, that the keys come early and my mom will be able to bring them up on Friday when she helps me move.

I LOVE it, and I think I'm gonna order myself one. Thanks:thumbsup2

Happy to spread the purse love...normally I have not been a fan of D&B purses. But this is from their ALTO collection and I just LOVE them! The leather, IMO, looks so rich. And while they are a little more expensive than the regular D&B bags, they are still much more affordable than gucci's, louis vuittons, etc.

As I mentioned in one of my other posts, I am moving and I moved a lot of my things over this past weekend...I had about 20 bags. And I still actually use all of them fairly often.

Man I love purses...:goodvibes

my suggestion : a crowbar! hey i would use it, i love purses too!:)

I LOVE that bag!

But knowing me, I'd still carry it around locked and have my stuff in another concealed bag.

I do love D&B bags. Most of them have my initials all over them. :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

:rotfl: My mom had the same suggestion...just carry a couple credit cards/cash in my pocket but still carry the bag.

Luckily during the week, I don't carry a purse much, just my work tote, so it's not too much torture.
