When we sailed the Med, we had a port-side stateroom and it offered us fantastic views of each port.

Same here. Port side had views in almost all the ports (only Naples had us facing a wall). Beautiful!

Don't worry, though! Just because the port side had lovely views in most ports does not mean that the starboard side did not! Several times, there were views on *both* sides of the ship, as you sailed into the harbors.
