This will be the first time we are in Spain on vacation; what are the best modes of transportation for 5 adults with luggage, coming from the airport and staying at a hotel in Barcelona before the cruise? Thanks for any help!

Taxis are ubiquitous in European cities. That's what you should use.

Be very careful about pickpockets & petty theft in Barcelona. It's a great city, just be careful to be pickpocket-proof & also don't set your phone/purse/anything you'd miss on a cafe table while dining outside.

Make time to visit the Basílica de la Sagrada Família (inside, not just outside) if you possibly can. It's magnificent and truly one of a kind.

We have always had good experiences with taxis in Barcelona. We’ve used them on four visits, airport to hotel pre- and post-cruise, hotel to cruise port, cruise port to hotel, and also within Barcelona to get to some of the sightseeing locations.

If you have time in Barcelona before your cruise, I agree with the above poster to see Sagrada Familia. We did a self-guided tour from one of the Rick Steves guidebooks to Barcelona, purchasing admission tickets to see the interior online in advance. We have also enjoyed the hop-on/hop-off bus tour. That can be done purchasing tickets at the time you want to do it.
