I enjoyed my trip to Rome so much. I walked it with a cane.
What you don’t see is American sidewalks, ramps and concrete near all the good stuff. Roads made of stone and brick. Just beautiful. But not great for ANY wheels. But it can be done, a struggle here and there.
The Colosseum has one elevator. Check your tour you will need to see if they have a handicapped tour. It’s a lot of walking and needs to plan how to not send you away from the group and require you to catch back up because they took a set of stairs a ways down from the elevator.
Also get a tour for the Vatican get handicap tours because they will have better stops to rest. Elevator options when available.
Use a car to get you as close as possible since public transportation will not be as close as you might need to enjoy the large campus.
