medication/refrigerator question

Does anyone know if the value and moderate resorts will charge you for a refrigerator if you're going to use it for medication that needs refrigeration? I know last year when we stayed at the Royal Pacific in US,we were not charged.

Someone posted on here recently that they do NOT charge you if it's used for meds.

If you need a frig for medicine storage you do not get charged at any of the resorts...

This is not quite accurate.

There is a charge for mini-fridges. However if you tell them it is needed for medication, sometimes they will waive this charge. So go expecting to pay for the rental, and be pleasantly suprised and a few dollars richer if you are not charged.

Can anyone speak to how this is handled at the S/D? We will be traveling with friends on our Nov 2005 trip and they have a son who's meds need to be refridgrated.

there is no charge, i make this request with my ressie and it is on my confirmation, if you you already have your res. call and ask to have it added.

Disney appears to have three different types of fridges (at least according to what people on the disABILITIES board report). One is the size of a shoebox and will hold medications just fine. The other is a small, shallow fridge with no freezer that will hold medications and maybe a half gallon of liquids. The last is the standard dorm size fridge that does have a small freezer. The shoebox one works great for medications and doesn't take up a lot of space.

As far as charging for them...at one time the fridges were free for medical reasons, but that was abused and so Disney started charging everyone for a fridge with no exceptions. They did not charge me for the shoebox size fridge that I needed the last time we were at WDW in February.

the past 4 yrs, i have always rec'd the dorm type at no charge, it has a freezer in it. this is at the cbr.

I have requested a refrigerator for my insulin, which of course would fit into the shoebox sized refrigerator, and received a dorm-sized refrigerator at AKL and POR at no charge. I've just requested one for Pop in August, and I know it's been noted as medical so I don't expect to be charged. The desk CM at AKL said that if a charge showed up, they would remove it.

dgaston, there was a small fridge that fits into the armoire (the shallow kind with no freezer) at Pop Century when we stayed there earlier this year. There was no charge for that fridge, but I was told by the front desk that if I wanted a dorm size fridge it would be charged at their regular rate. I didn't need a bigger fridge for my medications, so the small one in the armoire was just fine. I think it is one of those things (types of fridges) that just varies depending on what they have available.

We were NOT charged for a frig for medicine in '97 at POR or in Nov '03 at AS Sports. We requested the frig in advance and it was noted on our reservation at no charge!

We recieved a dorm size frig at both POP and S/D and were not charged at either resort. I don't think they would charge you for a true medical need...If you need it for medical reasons you would have no problem proving it so...it really is a mute issue...

I was told there would be no charge for the medicine fridge when I made ressies. The lady told me they are small and will only hold meds. i guess that is how they handled the people who were trying to "get over on them" as someone else posted. I think that is awesome of them. It is hard enough having a medically fragile child without being punished for it. And shame on those who would even try to get over for a free fridge. Thank Your lucky stars you don't have to live a medical life and splurge on the extra 10 bucks if you want a fridge.
