I have severe seasonal affective disorder and need to go south for 2-3 weeks this winter.

Does anyone have any recommendations on cost effective long-term places in Mexico or the Caribbean? I Am thinking a condo rental would be the cheapest but want a reliable person to rent from. Any recommendations would be appreciated :goodvibes

What about a cruise? There are some great deals out there and since food and entertainment is included they are really cost effective-especially if you book back to back ones.

I am looking at cruises but am always stuck with that "single premium" charge. Single and not in a relationship. Cannot take my daughter out of school for that long so she will stay with grandma. Sisters can't take that long off of work and are saving vacation time for a 2 week trip to FL this summer, a week on the gulf and then a week at Disney, can't wait!!

Just curious because DD has SAD as well. Have you exhausted all other options? Does light therapy not work for you?

Rent a condo in Orlando for about $400 a week. Nice places to visit.

I agree with golfgal. You should be easily able to find an oceanview for about $1K/week, even with the single supplement. Look in January. I much prefer it to staying someplace by myself. Food is included, there are people to meet (as well as places to be by yourself with a good book), entertainment of all types and new places to see.

I just visited Aruba the first time this year and would totally recommend it as a place to stay. They have many many timeshares so I am sure you can find something.

I hope this year goes ok for you:hug:

I do light therapy in addition to my meds. When I say severe, I mean I have been hospitalized 3 out of the last 4 winters at the end of Jan into Feb. I do not wish depression on anyone, wish more people understood it, I would change places with anyone.

Arizoan is really nice in the winter, I have family in Phoenix and love to visit them then. It's sunny all the time, warm during the days and just chilly enough for a light jacket at night. It's also a quick hop to Vegas or Disneyland, if you want to take a few over night trips while you're out there. Not sure about sources for short term rentals though, as I always stay with family.

Wherever you go, good luck!

Book several shorter cruises, 4 day cruises and take turns bringing people.
