Hi all, it's been 2 years since my Disney Cruise and the whole family is itching to set sail again! At the time of our last cruise my MIL wanted to go with us but I really wanted it to just be us. (We've gone on several vacations with the in laws)

We are wanting to take another cruise in the Spring, maybe in April. I really want me mother in law to go and hope she will be able to. She was diagnosed with Rectal cancer with mets to the liver back in June. She was told she'll have to have chemo every 2 weeks indefinitely but would be able to have a few months off at a time for some breaks, so we can't plan too far in advance. I'm hoping we can find a date when she is feeling well enough to go. (when she has a couple weeks off chemo she usually feels pretty good).

I know she will be concerned about taking a trip and would like to get other people's experiences to help make her more comfortable about the idea.

I do realize that a big ship full of people can be full of germs, but I also feel like avoiding things that you want to enjoy defeats the purpose of fighting for your life.

I don't have experience to share, but wanted to say your MIL is in my prayers. I'd suggest discussing a trip/cruise with her doctor(s) to see what is suggested for timing and if they recommend any restrictions. You'll want to get travel insurance that covers pre-existing conditions, which means purchasing that within a short time of making initial deposit.

Best of luck to MIL with her treatments and enjoy your cruise!

We cruised with my mom who had stage 4 stomach cancer 2 years ago. My daughter was getting married on the Dream and she wasn't going to miss it. She took a 2 week break from chemo so she felt ok while on our trip. We got a cabana while on Castaway Cay so she would be out of the sun and she just made sure she washed her hands and used hand sanitizer often. Luckily the cruise was in Sept. so there weren't too many sick people on the cruise. I say go for it. I also would recommend getting travel insurance because you never know if things will change. Because my dd was getting married, our whole family was on that cruise. My mom passed away a few months later but I know she loved every minute of it and we were able to get some great family pictures with her. As long as your MIL is up for it, I don't think you will regret it.
