MedCruise 6/15 to 6/27/13 from California travelers

Hi abayaflowers! :wave2:

I am loving your Trip Report, as it is helping relive our wonderful cruise!

Hi, Deb! Thanks! I like writing about it, too! :)

I really liked reading about some of your experiences, especially your DIY tours! DH will not do ANYTHING that is not a DCL activity. He went to Europe when he was 12 with his family, and he remembers the pickpockets and theives - they were robbed in Rome - and he is so paranoid about this that he refused to do anything on our own, so I like reading about the things you did!

That's such a terrible thing to happen, experience, and remember about going to Europe.

We flew into BCN from Newark, NJ and sat with a couple who was also on the MedCruise. They retold their experience several years ago on the inaugural DCL MedCruise where they and other passengers were staying pre-cruise. I believe it was at the Renaissance Marriott in BCN. Well, they met up with some other couples who were also staying there and decided to go to breakfast.

A taxi driver convinced them to take his taxi. As a result, he drove them down the street and around the block to an alley where they were all robbed of their money and passports.

From what they told me, they never take any non-DCL sponsored transportation or excursions because of this incident. They also try to walk everyone.

I empathize. It's so terrible. It dampens the whole vacation experience.

We saw the dogs at the Acropolis too. I was amazed at how calm they are - hundreds of people walking around, and they are just lying in the middle, sleeping! Our guide told us that they are safe and healthy, all vaccinated, etc.

We have also have a Chocolate Lab! His name is Remus and he is 4 years old.

I am so sorry about your door magnets. I remember seeing your sign as DD Jennifer and I were passing out our FE gifts. Jennifer got so upset that someone would do such a thing. Even if they are "just kids", I expect kids to know the difference between right and wrong, and taking things that do not belong to you is definitely wrong!

That's good to know about the dogs at the Acropolis. It just broke my heart that they were wondering around in the heat.

That's awesome! Remus must be wonderful! Wouldn't it be fun if our dogs could have joined us in our walking treks across the towns. I just kept thinking how much fun Max would have loved hiking along with us. But, I know that the heat would have killed him as well as flying over in a plane.

Thanks for the kind words about our magnets. DD10 was so sad. It also made her angry. So, I told her that a note on the door would be good. We also spoke to the Guest Services and they just blew it off like it was no big deal. To my DDs, it was a big deal.

I loved the FE gifts. They were so useful and creative.

I hope that your family had a safe trip back home and enjoying the memories, pictures, and souvenirs. :)

I wish that I purchased olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Maybe next time.

Have a great week!

interesting to read your comments...we sailed this voyage the week after you and both me and my hubby came down with a SERIOUS upper resp illness and sinus infection...there were many people on on 6/27-7/9 trip that got it also. In fact we are still SICK from it....bummer for us old folks.

I HIGHLY recommend anyone going on the Magic to take meds for this kind of sickness, take lots of immune boosters too....next time I will also "re-clean" our stateroom with disinfectants.

Yes, that terrible and Serious upper respiratory illness and sinus infection is still lingering. DD10 is the last to recover from it. It's almost been 2 weeks. I don't know what the issue was, because, physically (health-wise), it's been awful.

I agree with you by taking lots of immune boosters and re-clean the SR. I brought Clorox wipes with me and should have used it prior to our settling in the SR.

Also, remember to tell Guest Services right away so that if there's a respiratory infection going around, they can do a SUPER clean and report to the main DCL HQ.

They don't want to get the reputation of DCL MedCruise Magic the floating respiratory infectious disease boat.

But overall, I still love the MedCruise.

Also sorry to hear about your magnets. When DD heard, she immediately asked DW for a marker and used a photo marker and put our last names on every magnet she made for the cruise. And, that's a lot of magnets. But, thanks to you, she is mentally prepared if some disapear. She also used this as a reason to make more.

Great idea!

I wish we did that.

I hope your family has a great time on the cruise.
