Medallion Rubbings AK Lodge Jambo House?

Hi

I have promised a grade 2 class at my school that I will get them each a Medallion Rubbing at AK Lodge.(March Spring break 2012)
I have DISigned a template for this and printed outed 30 copies.

If you have done these what would you suggest I use to make the rubbings ?
charcoal?
crayons?
graphite(pencil)?
pastels?

any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would think crayon (for the purposes of travel) but if you ask, I know they offer rubbings as a children's activity at the hotel. They may have better advice for what medium is best.

I think for traveling you are right -crayon is probably my best bet.
I found a web site that explains how to make your own crayons from old ones. I think I'll give it a try with my Mickey head cookie cutter and use a pallet of special colors.

Just sharing my template I made,
it printed quite nicely and I am using just regular computer paper.

I plan to roll them scroll style and tie with a piece if raffia.

For the kids activity at Jambo, they give the kids crayons, with the paper peeled off so you can turn them sideways and run the medallion.
