mears was a complete waste of $80

we bought our plane tix and mears tix as a package through orbitz. I wanted to cancel but coulndt. we knew some other people who wouyld be down and we could share a car. but, since no cancelations with orbitz, we decides to use them and meet our parents later in the day at the parks.

got our bags, went to check in at mears and there was a small line..no big deal...got through it in 5 minutes...was then told to check in at the podium outside....this was at 10:00am on a sat.

there had to be 500 people crammed on that little sidewalk. I went to check in, and was simply told listen for #50 and shooed away.

After about 10 mins....a mears associate stood on a chair and said...if you are goin t o any of these places (contemp, poly, GF) go here......CBR go here ect ect....the busses would be along in 30 mins.....

someone asked about AKL which is where we were going, and the lady said at least an hour.

I got out my cell phone, called opur freinds and the turned around, went back to the airport to pick us up. we crammed in their car.

I gave mears a shot at turning around the bad press they get on this board and they failed misserably.


too bad I paid $80 for a service and never used it.

I had a simliar experience with Mears and will NEVER use them again. Ended up getting to my hotel around 2:30am because of them....(flight came in at 11pm!).

We used Mears once ... never again!

Our van had 2 empty seats, so we all settled back for the trip to the airport .. wrong! We stopped and picked up a lady and her 4 very sick kids. All were under 6 and 2 were babies.. and you know how much stuff babies need! We sat there forever as the poor driver had to unpack and repack the whole van to make room for 3 strollers, 2 pack and plays and their luggage. All the way to the airport, the poor lady talked about taking each of these kids to the hospital. I felt very sorry for her, but now the whole van had been infected .. and we were almost late for our plane!

From now on, we take a cab or car service. That was too much for me.

Another Just Say No To Mears vote here. The time it takes to get from the airport to the resort is ridiculous. At least now.

I distinctly remember 10 years back when they were timely and treated people like human beings and not cattle. The drivers were always pleasant and the staff at check in were informative and friendly.

Now, the drivers barely mumble, the staff is aloof if not ice cold.

Sure, if you're traveling as a party of two, you save money, perhaps $45-50. But if you are traveling with three or more, it's not worth the hassle.

Even though when we travel to Disney it is ususally just two of us, I pay the extra for a town car. We only used Mears once back in 1997 and will never try that again. As I have said before on these boards, we all spend plenty to vacation at WDW. A few extra dollars for a decent ride to and from the airport is worth it.
I know that some people defend Mears and have not encountered the problems that most of us have. All I can say to them is that it only has to happen once and you will find the horrors of Mears to be very true. When it comes to satisfying customers there is the Mears way (no way) and everyone else.

on my last month trip, i gladly paid $77 for town service from mco to allstars!!
its just not worth it to start the vacation with frustration and down time.

for my last 8 trips to disney, i have gone solo or have taken one kid with me and have used various town car services. face it, when you stay at sports, its ususally the last or near to the last drop off. and for the return trip, who wants to get picked up 3 hours before plane departure?

i went to one thread on the disboards trying to give away four $3 off coupons for mears, and no takers..........wonder why.......

to me, time is worth more than saving $47...........

sign me up for the club.............

I'm another one who will ALWAYS use a town car service - even when it's just two of us. We used Mears once a few years ago, and that was enough for me to know that saving $50 bucks or so is just not worth it! Now that we are usually traveling with our little guy, there is NO WAY I would even think about using Mears.

I never had a problem with Mears when I used them, but I just didn't like the multi hotel drop off. Thank heaven for FL TOURS!
