Mears Handicap Accessible Taxi

I have a few questions about the Mears handicap accessible taxi vans. Has anyone taken one from MCO to their resort? Do you order it from the cab stand at the airport, or do you arrange for it ahead of time? Is there usually a longer wait for the accessible van?

We will be flying in on Southwest, and would love to be picked up on the A side, rather than to have schlep all the way over to B for Mears Connect with our two wheelchairs and luggage. Also the shorter ride time would help my brother who has extreme urinary urgency.

Any tips to make our trip smoother will be greatly appreciated!

Fortunately we only have one passenger who will need a chair on the taxi. The other will use an airport chair as far as she can, then pick up her rental scooter at the resort. We’ve used Towncar service and Magical Express with her before, and this strategy works well. The other passenger has used the w/c accessible Magical Express before, but we’re hoping for something a little easier and quicker this time.

We’ve used the Mears accessible taxi before, but only from our resort. What I’m wondering is the most efficient way to request it at the airport. Thanks!

It is generally better to try to make a reservation in advance. There are a limited number of wheelchair accessible taxis. You may very well find you may have a wait, and easily 20 minutes or more.

A driver explained the process. Mears taxi drivers are independent contractors. When you request a taxi, app or phone call!, your request is sent out and drivers can decide to accept your request. Booking in advance Mears send out your request 10 minutes or so before your requested pick up time. You are not reserving a taxi in advance.
Call Mears directly. I don't think you can book airport taxi service in advance.
