MeanLaureen's Useless Poll of the Day - Wednesday!

Where do you get the majority of your books?

  • I check them out from the library

  • I buy them from one of the big box chain stores like Barnes and Noble, Booksamillion or Borders

  • I have a great little locally owned store I shop in

  • I buy them from Big Box bookstores but through their websites

  • I buy them from discount internet websites

  • I buy them from discount stores like WalMart and Target

  • I buy them from used bookstores

  • I trade books with friends

  • I read books using an online service

  • Other - what could I have forgotten? Please post!

  • I just don't like to read - I prefer tv or movies

  • Books? Who has time for books? I barely have enough time to read my fortune in a fortune cookie!

Good Wednesday morning to my community board friends!

Ahh.. a day off from work! Still woke up early but stayed in bed reading. (The 3rd Degree by James Patterson) I just got it last night from Overstock.com. Man that place is evil. I spend way too much money there! But you can't beat $14.00 for a new release hardback with $1.40 shipping!

Anyway - that brings me to the question of the day...

Where do you get your books?

I get the majority of my reading material from the library. It's one of my cost cutting measures. I can usually request something if they don't have it and it'll come fairly soon from inter-library loan.

Hey, I'm a bookworm and it can be an expensive habit!

You'll find me at the library! My reading habit would be expensive if I had to PAY for my books! :teeth:

I find that I buy a lot of books at the food store (Jewel or Dominicks) or at Walgreens. I am really bad about buying books so I try to avoid the book asile at all costs but sometimes....

I could easily spend my whole paycheck every week on books, but at times I really NEED a new book so I go to the closest store. Could be any of the above as long as they have a book that catches my eye.

During our big reading moods, my kids and I could easily read 20-30 books a week, so it's advantageous for us to just go to the library.;)

dh doesn't like the library  so we primarily shop at b+n or borders.

I used to always get them from the local Barnes & Noble, but I've since started getting them more often from a little used book store that a lady from the Embroidery guild owns, or from the local Half Price Books. If I can't find it there, *then* I go for the B&N.

I get the majority of my books at my university bookstore. I hate reading, and my schoolbooks are pretty much the only books I buy. I would rather sit around and do math/logic problems anyday than read a book (which is probably why I score nearly twice as much on the math over verbal/reading/writing sections on any test :teeth: ).

I like visiting Books a Million and now Barnes and Noble...in my new area! :teeth: Plus B&N serves Starbucks coffee at a discount if you belong to their club. :teeth: I'm hooked! LOL! But I'll have to keep that website in mind, Lauri! Wow! What a difference in price. I usually end up in the bookstores browsing as opposed to buying. I guess I actually "buy" most of my books through Amazon.com.

University Bookstore. Are books cheapest there??? No! But, many times it's a very obscure title. We're members though so we get a small discount.

Garage sales, garage sales, garage sales! I get so many NEW books at garage sales. You would not believe the amount of people who buy a book, read it once and stick it in their garage sale for like a $1! Used books for as little as 10 cents. Yep, garage sales are the best place to get books in my book! lol :wave2:

Barnes and Noble...in fact, I was just there tonight.

I have a friend who I book swap with so we trade. I try to buy the books when they are running the buy 2 get 1 free deal too to save money.

A little of everything; my new favorites that come out I get at Costco. Sometimes I shop at B and N. Sometimes I shop at a used bookstore. sometimes I go to the library!

I purchase a huge amount of books from eBay. You can get great deals on books, and if there's a specific author you like, you can find lots of several books for less than what you would pay for one book at the bookstore. ::yes::

Also, you can find rare and out of print books, special editions, and autographed books on Ebay. eBay is the biggest and cheapest bookstore in the world!!!!

Well now that I work at the library, I can get any book I care to read, and do bring home quite a few. I still purchase my favorite authors books at Booksamillion or Barnes & Noble.
