Hi guys,

I've been reading a bit about the meal plans on here, but I can't seem to get my head around the basics of them.

Could somebody please explain to me exactly what they are, what the different types are and where and how we can use them?

Thanks so much :)

ps sorry if its a stupid question, I have been looking at so many different threads and keep getting confused!

Hiya,

The easiest place to start is to get your hands on a DLRP brochure from your nearest travel agent. It has a page dedicated to the half board meal vouchers, with a list of which restaurant is included in which meal voucher plan.

If you intend having at least one table service or full buffet lunch or dinner each day you are at DLRP, the half board vouchers can save you up to 25% on the cost of your meals.

Hope this helps,

there are 3 types of halfboard vouchers - standard, plus and premium.
You can buy any whichever hotel you are staying in and book through disney direct.
Each one is worth a different amount and there is a list of restaurants for each where they can be used for the full cost of the meal but they can also be used for face value in any restaurant and you pay the difference
You have to buy them for each person in your party and for the entire stay but get one per night not per day (so if you are staying 3 nights /4 days you will get 3 vouchers each) and can use them anytime during the dates you are there

Hi, the premium halfboard is the most expensive and covers most of the restaurants. The Standard Plus covers a lot of the restaurants, including some of the more expensive ones and the Standard covers a few of the restaurants. It depends on your budget and where you would like to eat. The vouchers can also be used as part payment towards your bill in any restaurant. You can have any half board option you want!

Thanks :) that makes it a lot clearer!

Do you know how much the face value of the vouchers are?

Can they be used in Disney village? ie planet hollywood?

One last question, in the restaurants you can use them in, can you have anything from the menu, or do they have a different set menu for the meal plan?

Thanks so much

You can't use the vouchers at Planet Hollywood, The Rainforest Cafe, or King Ludwigs as they aren't owned by Disney. As far as I'm aware.

I believe you are given a set menu to choose from, so no, you don't have the choice of the full menu as such. You can, however, simply use your vouchers at face value and pay the difference if you would like something else off the menu....

Does anyone know the face value of the different vouchers?

I know plus is 25 and premium is 44, if you fancy some nice table service I would go for premium if you can afford it as it makes eating in California Grill, Inventions etc a lot cheaper.:)

I don't know the face value of the standard vouchers, but half board plus is 25 euros per adult face value, and half board premium is 44 euros per adult face value.

Edited - snap Gemmybear !!

So, if I pay £18 per day for Half Board Plus I can use the vouchers at face value, 25 Euros each (worth £25 given today's exchange rate, who knows by the time we go:headache: )? Seems to good to be true. Am I missing something?

Oh, using the vouchers at face value, can you in theory only have a main course and use the rest of the value of the vouchers towards drinks (a bottle of wine perhaps:rolleyes1 )

Even better value I can then use these vouchers for Character Dining at Lucky Nugget? Are there any times to avoid there where there are no characters around? Last question (for now:laughing: ), we are going the last week of March, just before the majority of schools finish, hence our very good deal on the holiday. How important is it likely to be to make reservations before we arrive, or should we be OK just waiting until we arrive?

You're not missing anything - you pay £18 in advance for the voucher, you get 25 euros worth at face value. You can also have the voucher used in full at various restaurants in the parks and resort hotels, where the cost is even more than 25 euros (I'm thinking Cape Cod buffet here especially at the Newport Bay Club - its around 27 or 28 euros if you pay on the day). Similar price at La Grange at Billy Bobs I believe.

If you're using the voucher at face value, it just comes off the total bill, so yes, it can go towards drinks as well as food.

Lucky Nugget is fully covered by half board plus, and is an excellent deal :goodvibes . In March when you go, it will only be open for the character lunch between 12noon and 3pm. The characters are there the whole time in that time period - some come out, go round all the tables, then more come out half an hour later, then usually the first lot come out again, and they rotate this way all through the lunch service. I'd recommend booking for this, and booking for no later than 1.30 (earlier if you can). You can have a very leisurely lunch at the Lucky Nugget usually - they don't rush you out.

Many thanks. The plan seems like a no brainer given the exchange rate at the moment which, well according to the BBC website, is only likely to get worse over the coming months. It'll be £18 for a hotdog n' fries at Casey's by Easter if sterling keeps plummeting like it is.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but we're pretty sure we know where we want to eat and I need help.
Agrabah Cafe and Rendez vous des Stars (covered by Standard vouchers)
and
Lucky Nugget and either the Steakhouse or La Grange @ Billy Bob's. (covered by HB Plus)

Would I be better off getting the Standard and paying extra or get the HB Plus and just accept the loss on the first 2 restaurants on our list, or would they let OH have a beer to make up to the voucher amount, or would we be able to use say 3 HB Plus vouchers, (although there will be 4 dining) in those 2 restaurants and make up the odd amount and thereby we'd be able to stretch them out to put towards another meal, as we're actually there for 5 days but will only have 4 nights vouchers IYSWIM.

Add to this that I don't want to be restricted, so for instance at Agrabah Cafe, I'd like to have full choice from the menu, is this not the case with the standard vouchers, despite it being included in the list of restaurants.

I hope this makes sense to you because it's confusing the hell out of me.

Hi Jill,

Agrabah Cafe and Rendezvous des Stars are both full buffets, so you won't be on a reduced menu with your standard half board vouchers at either of these restaurants.

Because of the killing you make on getting the Lucky Nugget at the price of the half board plus voucher :goodvibes , I'd suggest it makes more sense to go with half board plus, and take the small loss on the Agrabah and Rendezvous des Stars. It is a small loss, as its around 21 euros for each adult meal at both the Agrabah and Rendezvous.

I don't know if you'd be able to order extra drinks etc to bulk up your bill to the 25 euro's worth of half board plus - but I can't see why not, as thats their face value.

Thanks Elaine, just realised that when I was thinking about it I wasn't taking into account the fact that you're still saving with the standard and that the Agrabah Cafe and Rendez vous des stars would actually cost more than the face value of the vouchers anyway - right HBplus it is. :thumbsup2 :)
