Has anyone ridden ME back to the airport and not actually flown out? I want to meet up with friends who will join us on the 2nd leg of our trip but will not be staying with at WDW. They fly in the day we check out of our resort. I have had called Disney and they say I can ride ME express back by just giving a "dummy" flight so they can schedule the ride.

There are no mouse police that will force you onto a plane to fly out the day you go back to the airport. Your plan will work fine.

Thanks. It just comforts you to know others do the same. And since it is free I figure why not even if it is a bit of scheduling hassle.

You don't even need a dummy flight. If you call DME directly you can tell them your honest situation and they'll make a reservation for you. Just one thing, you can't call them any earlier than 60 days before your check-in date.

Make your reservation for Magical Express back to the airport when you get there (if not sooner), with the near-absolute deadline being the morning of the day before the day you leave by Magical Express.

While a "dummy" flight is not absolutely necessary, having one handy may speed up making your DME reservation.

Just remember that for dummy reservation they will be picking you up 3 hours before departure so I would pick a flight that arrives about 2 hours after your friends.

I've done it before...with no issues. You can book a 'dummy' reservation. If you have to be at MCO, to meet your friends, at say, 11am, find a flight that departs around 1-1:30. That will give you a pickup time of around 10-10:30, which will get you to MCO for your meet up.
Do you have to do it this way?? No, but sometimes it's just easier and less confusing.
You can also just try calling DME directly, and explain exactly what you need. If you get the right person on the phone, they can book you for the correct pickup time.

I'm doing this in November, the CM through central reservations told me to call DME and set up a "dummy flight". The DME CM said do NOT do this. He said I would get a notice the day before checkout from DME saying they do not have our return flight info and to call them. He said just call then and tell them what time I want to be at the airport and they will take care of it, no problem. Hopefully it will work out well. We are meeting my parents, getting a rental car and moving to a timeshare but when I realized my son has a couple extra days off from school we decided to add 2 days at Pop beforehand.
Good Luck!:)

Just to clarify - by Dummy flight the pp's meant a legitmate flight that is leaving about 3 hours after you want to depart to the airport, not just making up random flight informaiton.

DME does not check flight rosters to be sure you are listed !!

I have done it both ways- DME is better at taking the information without a flight but if I am dealing with a reservation CM I will use a "dummy" flight.

I need to do this for our October trip. We'll be staying at an airport hotel the night prior to our early morning departure.

I wanted to find a dummy flight out that left around 10:00 p.m. When I search, the latest I find is 7:00 p.m. Does the dummy flight have to actually go to my final destination? How can I find late flight times? I used Kayak to search and I also called up about 6 individual airlines to search.

Naturally, I'm assuming we will not check our luggage, but will carry it on DME with us.

Any other thoughts?

No it does not have to go to your eventual final destination.

You can choose any flight of any airline flying out about 3 hours after the time you want to board a Magical Express bus to the airport.
