My DD 24 and myself are going to WDW for 5 days no parks and thought it might be nice to have a drink or two before we head out for the evening. We are not checking our bags and would like to purchase some Malibu Rum. Is there a package store inside the airport? Thanks.

Bumping for the weekend group. :)

I have never seen a liquor store in the airport., there might be one in the hotel at the airport but I have never been in there.
I don't think there are any liquor stores on property either. I know you can buy beer at the Hess stations but not sure about liquor.
I get my alcoholic imbibements at the liquor store next to Walgreens on 535. If you have a car you just go out the DTD exit, take a right, and look for Walgreens. The liquor store is attached on the left hand side of the store.
If you don't have a car you can take a taxi, it probably won't cost much since you know right where you are going and what you want. The taxi could wait for a few minutes for you.
If you are feeling healthy and up for a good walk it probably isn't more than a mile walk to the liqour store. You might also want to get something to go with the drinks like a few bags of chips or dip etc... You can pick all that up at Walgreens or just a bit farther down the street at Walmart. I wouldn't suggest walking to Walmart, it is at least another 1/2 mile or more. I walk more at the parks than this distance, the only thing you have to weatch out for is traffic, there are some areas of 535 that don't have sidewalks but you could walk on the grass on the side of the road.
You can do a search on mapquest and see the distance. Mapquest doesn't recognize the street I put in so they won't map out distance.
the directions are:
Hotel Plaza Blvd to end. Take right onto 535 (S Apopka Vineland Road) to Cascades Village Court.
I am not sure if there is a liqour store at crossroads, directly across 535 from the DTD exit but others might know. I always have a car so I go to the Walgreens liquor store since I know that prices are insane at crossroads.

I think the hotel giftshops have a limited selection of hard liquor. I'm sure it's a little pricey but maybe not if you're taking a taxi or renting a car in order to just purchase one bottle of liquor.

My recollection is that the hotel shops have a markup of about 2x. Unless you are provisioning for a serious party, it might be just as easy to do that as anything else.

Thanks, We are flying in and taking ME so we will not have a car. (Storing that info for a furture trip though, thanks) It seems a little differcult to walk and I don't think I am going to take a cab so can anyone tell me if the gift shops carry Coconut Rum. Otherwise we will just purchase our drinks out. We are not heavy drinkers I was just looking to save a few dollars.
***Interesting news about the duty free shops I did not know that. Thanks for your input. :)

Here's another thought. Why don't you mail down a bottle to your hotel? I know alot of people mail their clothing and snacks etc.. so they don't have to check baggage. If you get a box and pack the bottle you could ship it a few days before you leave.
I had a friend mail me some discount coupons and they came two days later. I was staying at OKW and they left a message on my phone telling me I had a package.
when are you going? I wlll be there for the 4th of July and will have a car and will definately be making a trip to the liqour store, but for me it's Peach Schnapps and rum although malibu rum does sound nice right now.

Here's another thought. Why don't you mail down a bottle to your hotel?

Careful. Shipping alcohol via the post office is illegal; UPS, FedEx, and other companies sometimes will accept alcohol, but it apparently depends on the laws of the states from which it is being sent and sent to.

My thoughts:
  • Call the Hyatt between now and your trip, ask for their gift shop, and ask if they carry Malibu, will be open when you're at the airport, and where they are in relation to the terminal.
  • Go to the Resorts board, post a request for anyone staying at your same resort to find out if that gift shop sells Malibu, in what size, and at what price (so what if it's more expensive than a liquor store given that it's still less expensive than pretty much any other method of obtaining it once you're in Orlando... and surely no more pricey than a bottle you get at the airport or in the Hyatt).
  • Go to the Resorts board or, more likely, the DIS Meets subforum on the Just For Fun board and see if anyone staying at or near your resort the same time as you will have a car and would be willing to pick you up a bottle of Malibu when they're out doing their own shopping (or, if someone is driving the whole way, before they leave home) anyway.
  • Carefully plan your liquids/3-1-1 bag needs so that the two of you can get by on whatever will fit in two one-quart clear zip-top plastic bags AFTER you place enough nips in one or both bags to make whatever drinks you plan to have on that first night before heading out.
  • WeGoShop.com has no minimum, but a $17 shopping/delivery charge. She will shop at the one store of your choice, but will also get liquor. It might be cost-effective to order toiletries so you don't have to worry about ANY liquids - along with the rum and mixers.

"Carefully plan" = share whenever possible; use solid products whenever possible; use resort-purchased products whenever possible. Note that the Hess station does not sell hard liquor, so walking over there from the Pleasure Island/WestSide bus stop, however convenient, would be a waste of time and effort.

If you are checking your luggage, you could pack it in your suitcase. I have wrapped a bottle in several plastic bags just incase it leaks and haven't had any problems. I have also put 7-8 nips in a quart size plastic bag for carryon.

And I don't drink much :thumbsup2

Ditto, we packed a fifth of vodka the last 2 times and picked up the cranberry juice and bloody mary mix at Publix on our Tiffany grocery stop.

Thanks all I think I will have an order delivered by Garden Gricer. This seems like the easiest way. Thanks for all your help. :)

I used GG for an order with liquor. I told them brand I wanted, size and gave them a spend limit to not go above. They will take the order but you HAVE to then call them day before DAY of the delivery or they will not deliver the alcohol despite having charged you.:confused3 I was told it was some policy they had and did not understand why they charged me if they did not even tell me I had to call back! We were in DTD on deliv. day when they called me, they wanted us at resort for our stuff (because of alcohol), I was actually annoyed and told them I was not leaving..., but they did leave it for us and said that IF I had not answered my cell, they would not have purchased it, strange, and honestly not sure I would use them again. They also forgot one bag of chips, and another was totally smashed, so I had to call them that night and leave a message, then they called back and they came back the next day (after I had to bring the damaged item back up to the luggage area as "proof" another pain) they then replaced it and brought what they charged me for and "forgot". It all worked out but it was not seamless!
