Back in the 80s I did that for almost 3 weeks. Finally saw a McDonald's in Hong Kong but we went out for something else even though the kids in the group desperately wanted McDonald's. We did end up asking if we could get the continental breakfast buffet at one of our hotels and we got free coupons. Breakfast was generally included at every tourist hotel, but the standard packages usually only included the Chinese breakfast. It was fine but we got tired of it after a couple of weeks. After 8 days in China eating Chinese food for 3 meals a day, DD and I were thrilled to find a McDonald's in Shanghai! I didn't notice much difference in the menu but they did have different flavors of ice cream and they had bubble tea which my DD LOVED.
