Starting a new garden and we have solid clay so 2 weeks ago our neighbor bull dozed a section 25ft by 25ft and 24 inches deep. We had top soil and peet mixture delivered and i went plant shopping (boy did I have fun).Ever since then the weather has been crappy. Today its supposed to be in the 70's and hopefully dry. I can't wait to get started! Some of the plants i'm planting are roses, peonies, poppies, daisys, day lillies, foxglove, hollyhocks, clemitis, strawberries, rasberry bush's,delphiniums, and some annuals. I also got these really cute curved bench's to put in the center and then add a dwarf lilac tree(miss kim). We built our house 7yrs ago and have 8 acres and i have a little garden by my sons wheelchair ramp, but this is the first time for a large garden. We hope to keep expanding it untill it fills a very large area. This will probably take many years, buying dirt is like investing in the franklin mint(lol). If you want i'll keep you up on how it turns out.Susan:Pinkbounc

That is EXCITING!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I love projects like this! It sounds like you have ALOT to put into your garden... should give it a full feel right from the beginning. Any possibility you will post some pics when you get it done?

I would love to post pics. DD has a kodak digi camera,we just need to figure out how everything works. Takes me awhile to figure this stuff out.Susan

Oh the dreaming, the planning, the shopping, and of course the doing, what fun!! :) :)

Please keep us posted on your progress Susan, we're a very curious and nosey bunch of buds!! ;) :)

...8 acres eh?....I can feel my acreage envy rising up again.....lol ;) :)

Oh my gosh!!! That sounds like so much fun!! I would love to hear about your garden and the progress you're making!! :) I can't wait!! :) I hope it's a nice sunny, warm day so you can get all of your fun stuff started!!

Well progress has been a little slow. DD and I went out yesterday to get some last minute plant shopping in, locale nursery had a sale.I started digging out the paths but really felt the dirt needed a good rototilling so DH asked our neighbor to bring over his tractor that has a tiller attached and work up the area. They did a nice job. Today DD and i dug the paths. Boy did we do a lot of moaning and groaning,I beleive this ia a better work out then the gym. I can't put anything in until DH finishes the fence or the deer will think its there personel buffet. We've also had a problem with cows down the road that keep getting loose and running through our yard. I had veggie plants on my porch a couple of years ago waiting to get planted and looked out because i heard a noise and there was a cow looking back at me with a tomato plant hanging out of its mouth. Did spend some time today browsing through everyones garden pictures and I can say i'm inpressed. Those of you that have pictures up do you plan out your garden first or just decide as you go along what your are going to do? I sort of have some ideas but i don't really have a vision of what the overall finished garden will look like. I would like a water feature and saw a solared powered pump which would be great. Well can't wait to get back at it tomorow, told DD at this rate we should be finished with this spot by the end of summer(lol). Susan

Redd your new garden sounds very exciting. Looking forward to seeing pic's.

I also have heavy clay soil and it takes a lot of work to get the soil manageable, so I know all the work that goes into your garden. One thing they sell a product called "Gypsum" It's helps to improve the texture of clay soil and also helps plants to get the nutrients they need out of the soil.
