Is there anyone else out there who is just not all that excited about WoC, or is it just me? Even my DH who doesn't even go on any boards says he's already over it before has started!

Maybe we're just sticks in the mud. :goodvibes

I'm not that excited at this point. Mainly that's due to the fact that it changes everything I know about planning for DCA and is a total unknown to me at the moment. I'm also not a huge fan of parades, fireworks, and things of that ilk (I've never even seen Fantasmic, and I go to DL quite often), so the opening of another stand-around-and-hold-a-spot show is not a big deal to me.

However, I'm sort of looking forward to the day when all the kinks have been worked out and I can follow the advice of DISers about how best to see WoC :goodvibes

Same here!

I've been to DLR dozens of times and have never seen Fantasmic, the ELP, or any of the fireworks. I'd like to sometime, but it just hasn't been worked out any of the times I've been when they are actually showing, and it's not a huge priority for me.

I'm sure if I was going to be there for a week and wouldn't be going back for a very long time, I would make a point of seeing the shows. But I'd still prefer to put the emphasis on rides during my visit! :)

I am looking forward to seeing it ... someday ... but I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm excited for it.

I'm not that excited over it either, just for the fact I'm not that much into fireworks, or things of that nature. I'm going to advance buy the WOC picnic lunch when I go down there in Oct, and depending on how good my back is, may or may not watch it afterwards.

Well I was excited until I saw there is no seating like at F!. Now the excitement has waned and I am just interested and find it fascinating how all of it will pan out. I have no plans to see it at all. But I too may purchase the picnic boxes cause they look yummy and are different than most food at the resort. :thumbsup2 see if the show will work out :confused3

I will join the group here. I am going to watch the stream. I just do not see why the hubub.

I'm looking forward to it. I think they are making some really good changes at DCA, and this is just one of them that will make it a park that people will want to visit on its own merit.

I agree, but by the tone of the posts it has turned into a feeding frency. I really like DCA. For me it is a break in the crowds and some of the stupidity that goes with those crowds. I absolutley love a number of rides, but being a Disney shareholder I like to see my stock grow.

No seating = no excitement for me. I can't see myself standing with a 4-year-old and 7-year-old for this. What do we do with them once it starts? They won't be able to see!

I don't have much interest in WOC, either. We rarely watch the fireworks or parades, and have never watched F! (despite having been in the parks over a hundred times in the last decade).

That being said, I'm really glad that so many people DO enjoy those activities, because I know not everyone is a ride-fanatic (as everyone in my family is!).

I agree with everyone. No big deal. Mostly is sounds crowded and uncomfortable. I'd watch from a balcony though.

Jack,

Is the streaming tonight or tomorrow? I don't want to miss it.

I'm with the rest of you. We always go in the off-season, seeking the least crowded days. I purposely pick the days with the shortest hours, so it means we don't get to see all F!, fireworks, etc. In fact, in 11 years of going to DLR, we have only seen F! (and that was a fluke - we didn't know it was scheduled), fireworks, and ELP once each. Now, we did love them, and I would love to see them again, but not at the expense of going on crowded days.

We were at DLR a couple of weeks ago, staying at PPH, so we got to see run-thrus from the back. It did look amazing, even from that angle, but still not worth it to us to go through all the hassle for spots, etc. If we are there one day and it's playing and we can just walk up and see it, that would be great. If not, no biggie.

I do think it is good that DL is trying to control crowds and camping out for spots, etc, for those who go through those measures to get prime viewing, but quite honestly, for us the times we have seen these things, we did like just being able to find a (not necessarily prime) spot somewhere 15 min beforehand. With the Paradise Park area being really only the place to see WOC, tickets and waiting become a necessity; the other "shows" you can see from all over the park, so the crowds are more dispersed, KWIM?

And all the GlowFest, Carnivale of Color stuff does not interest me one single bit, and sounds like something that you'd really only want to see once anyways - I'm not sure it will hold people's attention like they think it will and be the answer to pre-show crowd control. I can see the first time you experience WOC doing it all, but after that, just wanting to see WOC and not the rest of the build-up.

We are like Jack, we enjoy DCA - we find it relaxing and a different pace then DL and we like to spend the day there. But now it sounds like after a certain time, the whole park will focus on WOC to the detriment or elimination of everything else - I know that will make us leave the park, not stay, and head to DL or back to the hotel. So while their intent may be to pull more people in to DCA, I think they will also be pushing anyone not enamoured of WOC out.

But who knows? Hopefully by the time we get back in Sept all the kinks will be worked out and it will be a weekend/high season event like F!, etc.

I do not think we will really know whether shorter folks can see or not until they do the show. I can not imagine the kids being left out of the viewing.
Streaming is tonight.

I'll join this group. While I'd love to see the show, the chaos is a real turn off. Having people in a holding area only to parade them through the park. Seems like the running of the bulls to me. I plan on being as far away as possible.

ITA, I'd rather not have my first Disney experience include being a WOC guinea pig. Fantasmic! will be enough for me, and then I will have an excuse to return maybe next summer to see WOC.

I have to admit - I'm not all that excited, either. I am not much of a show or fireworks kind of girl, really, and especially not if there is a lot of waiting around or crowds involved in the show I want to see, when I could be doing something else. I had my fill of fireworks at DL when I was a kid. The only ones I would want to see again are the Halloween Screams fireworks.

As for shows, eh...I have seen Fantasmic enough times where I don't have to see it again. It's cool - the effects and artistry involved are amazing and exactly what I would expect from Disney. This is what I expect of World of Color - amazing effects and artistry, beautiful colors, infectious music, etc., and I'm sure I will enjoy it when I ever get around to seeing it in person (after the buzz has died down somewhat)...but in the meantime, I will just happily watch the live feed/stream tomorrow night and read the reports from DIS-ers here on the board. I am just not a 'show' person. Now if a new ride or a new land opens that I am interested in, that's a whole different story. I could not get on Toy Story Midway Mania fast enough in 2008!! And when the Little Mermaid ride opens next year, I will be chomping at the bit to get on it too. World of Color? I can wait! My friends are even less interested in shows, so even if I was gung ho on shows, it would be hard to convince everyone else to join me in watching it and spending time waiting for it.

Also, there have gotten to be so many World of Color-related threads on the DIS now that I honestly don't even know where to look first for simple info. It's a bit overwhelming to me. I try to keep going back to HydroGuy's World of Color Super Thread for the bulk of the info, but it seems that new WoC-related threads are popping up every day (sometimes every hour), and I have lost count!! I don't recall so many new threads popping up when TSMM opened, so I guess WoC is a big deal to a lot of people. If nothing else, I want to follow along with WoC-related happenings as they pertain to the crowd levels changing at DLR (in both parks). I want to know if crowds increase all over DLR or just in DCA.

I'm definitely not anti-WoC, but most of you hit right on target with how I feel. Yeah, I personally am not a big show/parade person, but my kids are. I do enjoy watching the fireworks, etc. Most of the reason why we don't do shows at WDW is because I don't want them to be major time suckers. I'm sure WoC is a great show, but I'm not going to let the fight to see it/waiting for it suck up my preciously short time available. Plus, my DD wouldn't be able to make it that late.

Sherry, I'm with you! If it was a ride, I know my attitude would be different! I mean, I'm excited about the Silly Symphony Swings, and that's not exactly earth shattering!

I know there are show people out there, but I'm just really surprised that this would be an even bigger draw than something like TSMM. I'm surprised to hear that WoC is much more buzzing on the boards than something amazing like that!! Just all very interesting. And I, too, am really interested to see how this ends up affecting crowds, considering we'll be there right in the thick of things!

Glad to know I'm not alone! I was starting to think I was missing something.

This article from Sue Kruse on Miceage is quite interesting - she details all the wonderful aspects of WoC, and also the reasons why she was underwhelmed:

See, aside from the crowd issues that I am interested in hearing about, and if it affects DL as well as DCA, I guess I am just kind of interesting to see if a bunch of people will flood the parks (or at least one park) to see a new water show. Part of me thinks that people will just kind of end up seeing World of Color during their trips to DLR that were already planned, but that there will be no specific swarming of the masses to the parks right now just to see WoC. On the other hand, I'm not so sure.

Oh, good...I'm not the only one who isn't all about WOC! :lmao:

I'm sure it'll be a great show, but the thought of standing in a crowd so large that Fastpass machines will be repurposed to give out standing-room numbers, and one would have to go get such a "standing-room Fastpass" in the morning for a show at night, just doesn't appeal to me. There are plenty of other things to see at night, so I'll wait until the initial WOC craze calms down (years, if need be ) and then I'll check out the show.
