Hi Goofs!
I'm excited to introduce myself and be a part of the team!
I'm Dawn, 36 y.o SAHM to Travis 4 and Norah almost 3 and DH Mark. I teach infant/toddler and preschool swim lessons at the YMCA, I also sell Mary Kay (only a little now) and run sound at my church.
I am very new to running. My church sponsors a 3K walk/5K run each August. Two years I walked and pushed the kids in the stroller. Last summer a group of gals from my bible study decided we would run the 5K. This would be my first time running anything ever (I was not the athletic type in HS). Despite the fact we we trained for a few weeks at best I somehow managed to complete the 5K. Everyone looked so surprised when I burst into tears at the end (as the very last running to cross the finish - but that's neither here nor there). It was the hardest I've ever pushed myself physically and I couldn't believe I finished!
After swearing I'd never do anything like that again - I thought all winter about the Princess half. I knew that was too big of a goal for now and set it on the back burner. I began to research trips to return to WDW so I could attend
MNSSHP. The stars lined up perfectly; in February I received a PIN for Free Dining with the dates ended the first weekend of October. I learned of the Wine & Dine Half Relay and knew I had a reason to go back (this trip is without my kids & DH) and better yet I had a goal!
So, I've been in training now for a few months. I read & listened to Dave Parfitt's interview with John "The Penguin" Bingham during Marathon Weekend and immediately went to the library to check out
Running for Mortals! It was exactly what I needed to get started. I love the tone of the book and am following the walk/run training programs. I completed my second ever 5K two weeks ago; my goal was 45 minutes and I finished in 40 mins!
I am signed up to run another 5K at the end of May and am hoping to have a 10K under my belt by Sept. I'm shooting to do a race each month through October.
I'm excited to have found a great partner for the Half Relay on the DISUnplugged forum and really looking forward to my first Disney race. I think I've convinced myself to buy an AP on this trip so I can come back and do the 2011 Princess Half! It's a big goal but I am having so much fun running and challenging myself!
Ok, well now that the longest intro ever is finished, I'm glad to be a part of the group and look forward to getting to know everyone!
