Thank you for all your patience and thoughts.
Finally after what seems like a very long time I'm now online :goodvibes

Sadly this was at the cost of my PC being reformatted. I now have a lovely PC with an enormous Gigabyte of free space :teeth:

I could put together the remaing questions and because I know you love them ;) could find more jokes, but I have a major problem
The spreadsheet with everyone's scores was one of the files that I have lost :guilty:

Therefore, regretably I'm having to cancel May's contest.

Thankfully it is only 10 more days until Nikki's (BONITATIME) June quiz.

Aw Reid, what a shame after all your hard work. :badpc: :badpc:
Still, at least we have all increased our knowledge of DLP :rotfl: and you have some questions (and jokes LOL) ready for your next quiz! :lmao: :lmao:

:yay: It's lovely to have you back. :grouphug:

Reid

sorry to hear about your computer.

nice to see you back :)

Hi Reid, nice to see you back online, sorry about the computer problems - infuriating things - computers. :badpc:
The fact is they're far too complex for us mere mortals to have as illustrated by these Computer Helpdesk Quotes, which I though might cheer you up

User has gotten her third replacement monitor in as many months, so support tech checks it out - and finds water under the monitor, but no source of a leak. The next day, he's walking by and catches the user's new secretary in action. "I explained to her that watering a plant on top of any electronic equipment is a bad idea, and that maybe watering an artificial plant wasn't the best use of her time either."

Compaq is considering changing the command "Press Any Key" to "Press Return Key" because of the flood of calls asking where the "Any" key is.

Helpdesk: "Click on the 'My Computer' icon on to the left of the screen." Customer: "Your left or my left?"

Helpdesk: "What kind of computer do you have?" "A white one."

Helpdesk: "Good day. How may I help you?" Male customer: "Hello, I can't print." Helpdesk: "Would you click on start for me." Customer: "Listen pal; don't start getting technical on me! I'm not Bill Gates, you know!"

and my all time favourite helpdesk story

"Word Perfect Technical support; may I help you?"
"Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect."
"What sort of trouble?"
"Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away."
"Went away?"
"They disappeared."
"Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type."

"Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?"
"How do I tell?"
"Can you see the C:\ prompt on the screen?"
"What's a sea-prompt?"
"Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?"
"There isn't any cursor: I told you, it won't accept anything I type."
"Does your monitor have a power indicator?"

"What's a monitor?"
"It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?"
"I don't know."
"Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?"
....."Yes, I think so."
"Great! Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall."

....."Yes, it is."
"When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?"
"No."
"Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable."
....."Okay, here it is."
"Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer."

"I can't reach it."
"Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?"
"No."
"Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?"
"Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle-it's because it's dark."
"Dark?"
"Yes-the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window."
"Well, turn on the office light then."
"I can't."
"No? Why not?"
"Because there's a power outage."

"A power... A power outage? Aha! Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?"
"Well, yes. I keep them in the closet."
"Good! Go get them and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from."
"Really! Is it that bad?"
"Yes, I'm afraid it is."
"Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?"

"Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer." :teeth:

Good to see you back again - albeit minus the terrible - I mean brilliant - jokes :rotfl:

Welcome back Reid.

Too bad about the quiz, but there are more important things, and files, in life!!!

Reid,

All is (possibly) not lost!

Even with a reformatted drive, there's a chance you might get something back. Having suffered the same problem over Christmas, I can let you know of a product that helped me get back 70-80% of my files.

Go to www.active-undelete.com, download and install the free version of their product, do an 'Advanced' scan (with a formatted drive, a basic scan will find nothing) and see what you can recover.

The drawback with the free version is that you can only recover files under 64KB in size, but this should at least let you see some stuff and if you feel you need anything larger, the cost of the full version isn't that expensive.

Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

Lovely to see you back Reid, sorry to hear about your computer problems and the loss of files. Looking forward to you being able to do another quiz soon.

Thank you for all your thoughts and understand. I really appreciate it :grouphug:

Loved the help desk comments and I'd definitely have a look at any chance of recovering data :thumbsup2
