she's 13 and in bad health. How to can we help our kids, ages 14 and 10, through the process? It will be the first time they've dealt with anything like this.

Putting our 1st Lab, Buddy Clifford, down (as a result of cancer) was the hardest thing I ever did. The whole family was with him, at the vet's, at the end. It made us feel better knowing we were the last thing he saw as he peacefully went. There wasn't a dry eye in the room! Just remind your kids that you don't want your Lab suffering in pain and you have to do what is best for him. Hugs!

I know how hard this is. We had to put down Riley, our 5 yr old Golden Retriever because of cancer. I did not have to say too much to the kids because they saw how sick he was. There is a poem called "Rainbow Bridge" which talks about the animal running and playing in a beautiful field and they are not sick anymore. I would check this out, but it is a real tear jerker.

There is another poem out there called, "My Gift to Jesus" thats really great. My kids are little, but when I had my dog put down last year, it really helped to be with her until the end. BTW, today is exactly a year since I had my beautiful collie Kaesee put down due to cancer. Good Luck, this is a difficult decsion.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog. I just read an article in our local paper yesterday about vets that will come to your home to put your pet down. The people interviewed said it made it a little easier on them being at home.

I'm so sorry. You might involve the kids in the process. Ask if they want to be there, etc.
