I am a "bigger gal"--Size 16W-18W. I will tell you that I wear low rise jeans, but only with shirts that cover things that should not be seen

Low rise jeans, if worn correctly, can be more flattering than "mom jeans" on overweight people. Also, a very slight flare/boot cut, is better than a straight leg jean for bigger gals.
I am not kidding when I say I have learned sooooo much from the television show What Not to Wear

I basically redid my entire wardrobe and it looks like I have lost weight, even though I haven't. The trick is for bigger people to wear clothing that fits. Not too small, but also not super lose and baggy clothes either. Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne, etc. all have very stylish clothing for bigger people. Lands' End has beautiful sweater sets (their cashmere is cheap after the season), but they are definitely a "mom jean" place.
I have noticed many people, large and small, with the ol' Muffin Top. At this point, it is so out of style (sad to think it was ever "in"), that ANYONE doing it looks clueless.
