May Have to Cancel Trip

we're 4 weeks out and we may have to cancel. Our dog had a tumor removed from his rear paw on June 21st and it's still not completely healed. The wound is closed up but the skin covering it is very thin. It must be wrapped to cushion it, so he doesn't hit it and break it open again.
He was scheduled to go to Camp Bow Wow for the week but that won't work if it needs to be wrapped and watched so he doesn't tear it open again.
We're on our 6th BB for FD and to cancel will even mess up our trip for next fall.
There is one more possibility, I need to talk to a vet tech at our doctors office. She sometimes takes pets into her house to board during their families trips. Of course, she's used to dogs with bandages, so that would be no big deal. Our dog is a rescue and a little shy around people he doen't know. He has to come to you on his own time. Don't know how he'd do. The tech is wonderful and she's been working at our vet for over 10 years.
So, please keep a good thought that this will work out. if there's ever been a year we need a vacation, this is it. Dog's been sick, husband in hospital, mother passed away after a horriable illness and more. It's been a rough year!!

A vet in my area keeps a small number of pets at hotel with 24/7 vet tech coverage. Ask your vet if he knows of any. I know he took a recent surgical dog for a family in my neighborhood and they really were happy. Pricey though. Good luck, hope you can make our trip.

I completely understand. I'm less than 2 weeks out and we are having issues with who's going to take care of my shut-in grandmother due to injury to the one that was supposed to. And we've had the same kind of year. Sending some extra prayers and pixie dust your way.

Could he wear one of those booties they make for sled dogs? You have 4 weeks to go, and keeping it in a boot might be all it needs to heal up all the way.

Just a thought.

Sorry to hear that... HOpefully you can find the right TLC environment, and it works out all around

I'm not sure where you are located but from the reference to Camp Bow Wow I'm guessing near S Windsor, CT. My dog stayed at the NE Veterinary Center (where he had a liver tumor removed a month before) last month during our trip and they were great (and just as much as where he usually goes). PM me if you want their info.

Most vets have boarding available for clients who need more attention, especially after having surgery.
