May 26, 2010--5/26/2010 10 Night Mediterranean

Welcome to our meet and your first post on the Disboards! :welcome: I saw your post on cruise critic and I think you will find all the answers to questions on these boards, esp the general DCL forum. You will get lots of your general DCL questions answered there. I rarely go over to cruise critic but am looking for more info about this volcano thing!
Are you driving up to Barcelona or flying? Are you guys stationed in Rota? DH is retired military. I visited Rota when I was in the reserves. :goodvibes

We are flying into Barcelona and yes we are stationed in Rota, we love it hear and I've love all the travelling we've been able to do in the past couple of years!
Hope the volcano doesn't interfere with too many more vacations :worried:

Hi everyone! We rented Roman Holiday at the library this weekend and watched it tonight to get everyone in the mood. I had forgotten how great this film is:goodvibes It is great way to while away a few hours before we set sail.

Hi Everyone,
We're back from a 7 night med cruise on "Splendour of the Seas" Barcelona, Villefranche, Rome, Naples, Corfu, Split and Venice. We stayed in Madrid for two nights before the cruise and in Venice for two nights after the cruise.

We had a good time despite fighting sore throats. The ship's air was so dry which didn't help. I loved Villefranch (went to Monaco) and Split, Croatia where we really enjoyed the old town. Those were the two new places for me. Venice, was spectacular but a bit cold.
By May the weather should be just perfect. April was a bit cold in most places. We were the first big ship to come through for the season.

Anyway, Caleb just turned 6 yesterday!! We had a little family party for him last night.

Here is a link to him blowing out the candles. The kitchen is a mess and the table has his presents spread everywhere. I should think about these things before we videotape! I'm usually very neat. Anyway, sorry for the mess.

His party will be on April 24. It's a "Finding Nemo" party.

We have been assigned cabin 2102.
I'll try to catch up on the posts.
Jennifer
Welcome back:goodvibes I am glad you had a nice trip. The birthday video is sweet.

I tried to put this on the other board but have not gotten any replies. i thought maybe someone here would know:

Okay, so I have never flown abroad before (my only flights have been to Disney). Therefore I have several questions:

1. prescriptions meds - do they have to be in the orginal bottles? We were hoping to combine some stuff so that we do not have to take as many individual bottles.

2. We are participating in FE. I have some candy treats that are individually wrapped. I had not thought about this until last night. Will these be allowed?

Thanks!!!!
1.--Technically yes each needs to be in it's own original container. They are rarely checked, but it can happen and it could be a huge hassle to replace your meds if they are confiscated.
2.--As long as they are store bought (not homemade) you should have no issues. HOemade goodies could possibly be an issue.
Hi all, can anyone elaborate on the "DCL excursions being non refundable close to the cruise"? Does anyone know the details of when the deadline is or where to find that info online. Much appreciated.:confused3:confused3
I am not 100% sure about this so hopefulyl someone else will have a better idea--but I think you until three days before departure to cancel with no penalty.
Just wanted to say Hi to everyone!
This is our first cruise ever and we are really excited! We just booked last week (we live in Spain so air travel is a little easier) and I can hardly wait. I don't know how all of you who booked a year ago have been able to stand it!Anyways, we have two kiddos dd-8 and ds-2...
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
Welcome! It will be nice to have you aboard.

We had a lovely time in Salzburg and the surrounding area for Easter. If anyone wants to see our zany family being silly and pretending we are in the sound of Music, etc AND some lovely shots of the Alps, David put together a a little video of our trip footage for family/friends on youtube--it is linked below.

I think we have everything ready to go for the trip now. Our second FE is on order (poor Tiffany--the kids designed stuff that she does not have on ebay and asked her to make it and she said yes! She is such a sweet person--we got to sail with her 2 years ago), we booked a mobile home at a campground in France to stay at for two nights before heading on into Barcelona, and I got our tickets for the Vatican:cheer2: It feels so good to have everything bought and booked and done.

Hadley, both of your videos are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aww, thanks Tammy:flower3:. I can't take any credit for them--Dave puts them all together. Since we live so far from family they give us a way to feel a little connected and like we are still "Seeing" each other--the cousins always like to see things like them. Now we just have to come up with a song to use for the video we will make of this cruise--any suggestions?

Welcome Aboard Miss Ree Ree! We only booked a few weeks ago ourselves....:thumbsup2

Welcome! Lots of great information here and on the facebook page.

Just found this board. My family is cruising 5/26 and can't wait! Looking forward to meeting new friends. It's our 20th anniversary (June 9th) and it looks like there are several other anniversaries cruising with us! Bringing our kiddies DS 12 and DD 7. Would love to meet other families with kids around the same age.

Welcome to all our new cruisers. :cheer2: This is a great place to have all your questions and concerns answered. Great bunch with lots of information to share. I felt less overwhelming when I found this board :)

Debs Disney - love your tinkerbell picture, so cute!!

Is anyone, besides me, concerned about this damn volcano in Iceland? Now, the news is that a much larger volcano within 8 miles of the erupting one is likely to also erupt and that it has the potential of being 100 times larger than the small one.
Like several of you, we are flying to London and then to Barcelona on BA.
Naturally, we didn't purchase our trip insurance until yesterday, and this is a pre-existing condition for us, and not covered by insurance.
Yes, we have a month to go, but I'm sure some of you are on earlier sailings
Besides, volcanologists are saying that this condition could last for weeks.
Are you kidding me?

I'm with you there, Bill! I ate alot of chocolate yesterday because of the stress! :rotfl: I am hoping that British Airways will start routing planes thru Barcelona, maybe? Perhaps DCL would offer credit towards another cruise if we can't get there, and airlines refund travel if they can't fly. Has anyone called DCL to ask about this? (a credit towards another cruise if you are not eligible for a refund?)

If the "other" volcano errupts will it be considered a pre-existing condition.

Bill.....I'm with you! Not only do we have the volcano to worry about....now in the papers we see that American Airlines are possibly going to strike! Good grief! Would AA have to refund our money if they go on strike?:confused3

I am watching the news constantly and am very worried too Bill! We could all lose out if the second volcano errupts. What if we all got stuck in Barcelona or something? This is very troubling!

It IS concerning, but I am going to have faith that it will all calm down soon. It is just soooo weird. I am lucky in that we are driving to port so I will at least make the ship--but my Dad is coming out (from Mexico) mid May and I am worried I will miss seeing him because his flight will be cancelled. Surely, surely this just how to work out. Those on the TA right now and those whose cruise starts on Saturday must be REALLY worried.:scared:

I'm trying not to worry too much about how the volcano will affect our travels. I know that airlines are losing millions of dollars a day. I am sure that by the time of our cruise they will have figured something out to make travel possible. Keep our hopes up and stay positive. :cheer2:

50 flights are supposed to be heading into Germany now--the first to arrive in about 3 1/2 hours. It is a good start--everyone keep your fingers crossed and we will get you all to the ship yet:goodvibes

Glad flights are starting back up with over a month until our cruise! I hate the idea of so many people not being able to make a vacation! But you know the airlines are pushing, they want those dollars (or euros!)

DisneyDeb

Hi Debra! American Airlines going on strike??? :scared1: Geez! I would hope that if they go on strike you would be compensated somehow...either a full-refund, a flight on another airline, or tickets for future flights. Not really sure how they would handle it.
We were involved in an Air France strike 2 years ago in October. We got "stuck" in Paris (what a problem to have :lmao: ). We were given several options by Air France (Delta, who is their partner airline). We could wait until the strike was scheduled to be over in 5 days and fly home then, or we could travel to another city to fly out of since Paris' Delta flights were completely booked. We opted to stay in Paris for another day, then we went to Amsterdam and caught a flight. Air France compensated us for all lodging and food. It turned out well for us, and we got to play in Amsterdam for a day. Now I'm not sure that American Airlines would be that generous, as most of the European train lines & airlines tend to be.

Hopefully, we won't have to find out. :goodvibes

I went on Kayak.com and found 2 airlines that have flights directly from the US to Barcelona. They are Delta and Continental. There may be others but those are the ones I found.

even when all airports are open for flying, they still have to find flights for all those stranded flyers. Yes Bill we are keeping our eyes and ears open on that 2nd volcano. Someone should just put a cap on it

:confused3 so im stuck on one of the excursions. in naples i have scheduled the pompeii half day but am now thinking of switching it to the amalfi coast drive and ruins of pompeii.
