I noticed at least one group is catching a flight out of BCN at 10:00 and others at 10:30 on 6/6

I was wondering if DCL has a suggested (or guaranteed) earliest time to make a flight connection after disembarking the ship?

Thanks

For the most part...

I will let someone who has that flight time Comment...

But, I have read that folks who booked there air thru DCL have Been assigned those times... :scared1:

Thank you for the low down, Skype doesn't work on the ship Disney blocked it when the found crew using it Have a friend who works from home and bought it. Went on a 3 day cruise last month to try it out and it was blocked. I have sprint going to call them tomorrow about the international plan. So are you saying cheaper to by the sims card in italy than here. cindy

Depends on what type of Sprint you have as to what will or will not work. I have Sprint/Nextel - what used to be Nextel. They have been SIM based for years. They also provided the ability to roam internationally using their SIM and a GSM-based phone. Sprint/Nextel used to sell a GSM-based phone strictly for that purpose.
I'm less sure about Sprint...

SIMs like Money exchange are cheaper in country. I wouldn't suggest Italy though - I'd by in Barcelona, Spain. Get a carrier that works in all 3 countries. You'll find tons of cell shops in the city that can help you. The downside - you won't know your "phone number" until you get there. Some people need to have a telephone number before they leave - which is one reason to buy the phone/card in the US.

Seriously though - most of us only need the occasional call home. Phone cards will be infinitely cheaper for that. You can even tell people to leave messages on your home phone and you'll call in every day (via cheap phone card) to see if something is needed. You'll save TONS - and spend more time having fun on vacation than answering your cell phone.

Of course I'm not doing that. I wish I was. Instead I am logging into work once a day AND keeping my cell phone attached with international roaming just for work. YUCK! At least work is paying for it (I certainly wouldn't).

Sue

Let us know about Sprint. We have Sprint, they don't take SIM Cards. They do however have a new phone that is a Tri-band. It can call from Italy, but is more expensive. I don't know the rate for sure.

Rate depends on your account. Can't tell you what mine is since it's covered under a corporate policy with the appropriate discounts. It wouldn't surprise me if it isn't upwards of $4/minute.

Sue

The new motorola razor supposedly takes sims cards so might have to update our phones. i will keep you posted cindy

Updating your phone to a SIM-based phone is only half of the battle. Unless the phone is GSM based (that's up to the carrier, not the manufacturer - Motorola makes various different versions of the RAZR for the different cell phone carriers), you'll STILL need to purchase a GSM-based phone. Make sure you get a representative that really knows international.

It's hardly worth all of the trouble and expense if you aren't going to travel to Europe often. Even our engineers who travel there often for work just grab a GSM-based phone and purchase a pre-paid SIM once they get in country.

Just remembered an example. Sprint (non-Nextel) is CDMA based, not GSM based. Most likley their version of the RAZR would not work in Europe. You'd have to buy the RAZR to get the SIM, get international roaming, get yet another phone that was GSM based and took SIMs, and then put your SIM from the RAZR into the GSM-based phone and pray it works. You can't even check it in the US - you'll have to wait until you get overseas.

It was 10 or 10:30 AM, I don't remember which (suggested only - NO guarantees on anything unless you book with DCL). It shouldn't be that big of a deal though. According to DCL, the very LAST shuttle to the airport from the port was at 9:30AM.

Airports in Europe generaly don't have you checking in as early for flights as they do in the US - so that will help too.

Susan

Crayons, pens and coloring books in the box too! :)

We took a road trip from Florida to Ohio when he was 5 months old. He is great in the car. We take nearly bi-weekly trips to Orlando to Disney and he does great with that too. We actually aren't too worried about the travel with him. It will be his first plane trip.

As for his B-day... I have NO idea. We are going to order birthday package for him..(cake, banner and a few other things). I just want him to have a good time...

Me, DH and kiddo all have b-days the same week so it is kinda neat for all of us anyway.

-Laurie
My son had his birthday on our last DCL. We ordered the pluto birthday package for him, through DCL. They take the pluto and have all the characters sign it, or you can hang on to it and try to hit them up on the ship. Then, on his birthday night, we had presents at the dinner table too, they sang him happy birthday and brought him a birthday cake.

It was a fun evening.

Will post a picture hopefully tomorrow night when I finish them off. No real pattern, I fly by the seat of my pants when I sew. I would sell them but I really just don't have enough time to do all the things I need to do, let alone sew more stuff! :) But thanks for thinking of a new business for me when I return from the cruise! :)

I already sell custom kids clothing on eBay but have put that on hold til after the mega-vacation! :) YIPPIE!

Can you tell me how wide you made yours? TIA!

Okay, here's a website that has some pretty good information on cell phones. It explains the GSM stuff and SIM stuff and thoroughly discusses all of the different options that I had mentioned before. Here is the link for the "getting started" guide that explains everything you wanted to know about cell service in Europe but were afraid to ask.

The website does sell phones, SIM cards and services - yet it's still a very good article. I am absolutely not affiliated with this website whatsoever.

Hope this helps!

Sue

Awesome! I've added you in.

Is this considered "Dirty Power"? I know people do it all the time, but my DH doesn't like to plug either one of our laptops in the car adapter. Just Wondering...:confused3

On laptops, you do not have to be concerned about "dirty power." Your battery and charging system filters the power so that your system will always receive "clean power."

:yay:
