May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

It's been my experence that they do charge tax while in port but once out to sea (about 3 miles) there is no tax.

Steph,

We always buy the wine package on the first night. We go for the cheaper one and it usually works out to $25-$30 per bottle. I think it's about twice as much as you'd pay at the store, but it's convenient and if you don't drink it all, they cork it and keep until you're ready to drink it.

I've read on the board that you should wait until the ship is offshore to buy wine packages because they charge tax at the port. I'm not really sure if this is true, but it's something I'm going to ask about!

I've always had good luck with Dramamine (on small fishing boats and dive boats). Never needed it on the Magic - even when we were TransAtlantic!

Can't wait to see everyone ONE WEEK FROM TODAY!!!!

What the heck is a Tropical Storm Umberto and should we be worried???

That was a big storm/hurricane in 2007...... Where did you hear about it now??

Edited to add: I just checked, it's Tropical Storm Alberto. You were close! lol It's off the South Carolina coast right now; we'll be fine by next week. Maybe some rain leftover but hopefully nothing to mess up our sailing. :) Let's just hope for no other storms!

If you have the ability to use your phone to post. Would you please post what time you pass the Statue Of Liberty and what side of the ship she is on. We are on the 6/10 cruise and I really want to get a picture of my kids on the deck of the ship with the Statue of Liberty behind them.

Thanks

YAY!!!! :cool1:

We'll be up on deck for the sail away party, with our cameras, so we should be able to tell (once we get back home) approx what time it was that we passed by the Statue of Liberty. :)

Ok everybody - start praying :worship:, do a dance :dancer: - whatever you need to do - the weathermen changed their minds and are calling for rain. My mother-in-law says to hang the rosary beads to keep the rain away so that's what we'll be doing. It's teeming here right now and should be for the next few days so hopefully there will be no rain left for Friday.

To those that have cruised before - is everyone like sardines taking cover from the rain on sail away day?

WHEN SHOULD I START PACKING!!!???

I don't want things to be forgotten but I don't want things wrinkled either

I'm packed!! Finished today, apart from a few random things to go in! I had to do it, as working tomorrow and busy on Wednesday. Haven't stopped all day, I'm shattered! I know I've overpacked clothes wise, but I can't help it. I'm within weight allowances, so thats all that matters.

3 more sleeps til we fly out, I am beyond excited and going to bore everyone at work tomorrow going in about it!!

Oh, and today I finally reached the 3 stone marker in weight I've lost, right in time for the cruise. Would have been there a lot quicker if I hadn't put 11lbs back on over Easter, so in reality I've lost 3 stone 11lbs. Will have to get right back on the diet after the cruise I'm sure.

We'll pack the afternoon before. THis way if we have to run & get something we still have time. We do get stuff together that we won't use before the trip so it takes us less time to pack and it gives us an idea of what we may need to get.

I'm going to start packing on Tuesday. I'll never forget the all-night packing experience I had the night before departure last year. Never again!

Cathy and I are almost packed - we have all our clothing on hangers -I will put them in the suitcase on Thursday afternoon - otherwise we are all done...WOO HOO!!!

I can't say how thrilling it is to just put what ever I want in the suitcase without worry about weight or space...a first for me!!!

I have done 32 day trips in one checked bag...and laundry mid trip...this is a joy!

See you all on Friday!!!
