May 2016 Panama canal has a GTY rate for families of 5

Are you sure there was a VGT rate? I just checked and didn't see it. I did see that the 4Bs were in GTY. With GTY, you pay the same price as a regular booking. You just don't get to select your stateroom.

Oh..that makes more sense. LOL! I should have clicked through and I have never booked a GTY room. My mistake..
