Anyone else going to be going on this Disney Dream Sailing? If so join in lets chat and help each other pass the time away until we get to set sail on the Disney Dream!

My name is Amy and I am a Disney Cruise Addict! This will be our 5th cruise but I spend countless hours reading, watching, and learning about everything DCL related! My mother and I live about 45 minutes from Port Canaveral and visit the area often to watch the cruise ships leave from port. We do live 5 miles from Epcot so we do spend a lot of time in the theme parks when we aren't working or going to college classes!

I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :cool1:

Have a great cruise!

Hi, Amy! We will also be sailing on the Dream on May 12, 2013. This will be our first family vacation and first cruise ever. We live in Omaha, NE, and hope we can find some decent priced airfare to get us to Orlando. Our twin boys will be 4 when we set sail. We booked a back to back cruise, so we will be following this 4 night cruise on the Dream with a 3 night starting May 16th. I am super excited to (hopefully) get the chance to have at least one dinner with my husband that is quiet and where I can actually eat slow enough to taste my food! I am also excited to be able to celebrate both Mothers' Day and my birthday on the Dream. We have very outgoing boys, so we are confident that they will love the Oceaneers Club and Lab. As the next year passes, I'm sure I will start freaking out about what to do, how to do it, and when to do it! Since you're so experienced, I might be asking for lots of advice if you don't mind. I've already spent countless hours online researching and learning about all things DCL. To follow your format:

Welcome! Yes what a great Mother's Day gift! When is your birthday? Mine is the 18th of May.

The boys will love the clubs and hopefully you will be able to enjoy Palo or Remy. If when you go to book online for the Palo/Remy Reservations and it says they are sold out. Don't panic. If that happens check every so often things sometimes open up online through cancellations but also when you board the ship first stop should be the 12th Deck Aft where Palo/Remy is located. Try and book it on the ship the first day. We just got off the Fantasy and both restaurants were booked solid at 90 days out. About 70 days out after the final payment date passed some reservations opened for both. We booked what opened for Palo and when we boarded the ship went to Palo and were able to change it to a different date. The sold out Brunches were also all available when I went in person and was able to book 1 of those.

Feel Free to ask any questions and if you go to the trip report section of the Disney Cruise Forum here on the DIS I have a trip report going for the Fantasy which is very similar to the Dream. It might give you some ideas of what to expect.

I'll add your info to my first post so that we can keep track of everything hopefully we will have others join in on the thread and we can help each other pass away the time until we cruise again! A Daunting idea since I have 2 semesters of very hard college classes to get through!

Thanks for your reply! My birthday is May 17th! Thanks for the tips on the restaurants. We are interested in Palo, but Remy is a little out of our league...lol! I've heard that people can usually get a reservation one way or another. I will ask you more as time goes on. Thanks for all your help.

My daughter and I will be on this cruise. We are flying out of Seattle and our party is me, John (50 by then) and Katelyn (11). This will be our 1st cruise (my cruises are usually riding the hour long ferry to get to the Seahawk football games) but we are regular visitors to Orlando, I'm not sure how many times I've been (13 or 14 since 2000) but I think Katie has been 6 times and the last 5 years straight. We just got back from Orlando 2 weeks ago and can't wait for the trip. We are in #7192 aft and are scheduled for 2nd dining but not sure how much main dining we will do since we are not fancy eaters......would appreciate any feedback on that. We plan to do the day at Atlantis, I gave my daughter the choice of doing a trip to Atlantis or doing the Dream and visiting Atlantis and she chose the cruise. We can't wait, I am so looking forward to sitting on the verandha and relaxing!

Remy is out of our league too but we might try it this cruise because we've heard such great things about it. But we love Palo so much we don't want to miss that either. Given its 4 nights we probably will just do Palo and save Remy for when we do another 7 night.

Having this cruise on the horizon is helping curb my post cruise blues. The fantasy cruise we got off on 5/26 was so awesome its hard not to feel sad to be home lol.

Welcome! I hope you and Katelyn have a great time on the cruise and hope that the day at Atlantis is amazing for you two! The Dream if its like the Fantasy is amazing and a lot of fun.

We are down to earth people we are not fancy at all, and the main dining rooms are not "fancy" but just a little above say a casual restaurant. Think of them of as being similar to say a Chefs de France, Ohanas, or 1900 Park Fare. Level of restaurant instead of say something more formal like Narcoosee's or California Grill. Palo is more like the signature restaurants at WDW and Remy like Victoria and Alberts.

Disney only asks that in the main dining rooms that you wear pants instead of shorts and instead of a tee shirt maybe a polo or something less casual but nothing super fancy. Think Sunday brunch clothes (closest thing I could think of hard the analogies I have work for female clothing lol) nothing fancy a smart casual clothing event.

I would eat Macaroni and Cheese every day if I could because I am such a plain not fancy eater and the main dining rooms are so much fun for me because I am able to order whatever I want and if I don't like something I can ask for something else and its all included. I also can order more then one appetizer, more then one entree, and more then one dessert so I can try new things but also order the "safe" items that I know I like and I don't have to feel guilty about only taking a few bites of one or the other.

I know I probably didn't describe it right but I would not worry about the restaurants being too fancy, if you had main dining I'd suggest requesting to be table mates so that you would have someone at the table that you at least could get to know ahead of time and make it feel less "unknown" and less "formal" but given that you probably will be on Seattle time, the 2nd dining will probably work out best for your being on Seattle time.

If you decide to do something different for dinners the only one I would suggest you absolutely do is Animator's Palate the show that is done is a LOT of fun and should not be missed.

If this confuses you I apologize, please let me know and I will try harder to describe or explain.

Please ask any questions you have about cruising, DCL, etc I would be happy to help!

Thank you for the reply. I'm not as concerned with the dress code as I was the food being a little fance but everything I've read says if you want steak/potatoes just ask for it. I actually like the looks of the kids menu. I just saw people saying that dinner could be up to 2 hours but wasn't sure about what goes on, glad to hear there is some kind of a show at Animators Palate. I want Katie to get the most out of the trip she can so I want her to not miss anything and it would be great if we got seated with someone else with kids she could meet.

Hopefully more people will join and you can join up with someone who can be friends on the ship with Katie.

To be honest during dinner and show times there really aren't many things scheduled for those times as they know people are eating. But I just saw that with the later dining you can sign Katie up for the Dine & Dash (might be called something different) program where they will bring her food out right away so that she can eat, and then the kids are picked up and taken to the kids clubs to be able to enjoy the club while the adults eat. So you could always have her do that if she finds that she doesn't want to sit and eat the whole time.

But in terms of family programming most of the activities are between dinner/show or after the dinner/show times. With a few things over lapping.

So I don't think you'd miss too much by having dinner in the MDR's.

Nevermind, I have changed my reservation because I didn't want to be away on Mothers day.

Not sure if there is room for a Steeler fan and a Seahawk fan on the same cruise! We are still a little bitter in Seattle over our Super Bowl result a few years ago. Oh well, it's vacation......welcome to the cruise!

I'm going! This will be our second cruise, first for the kids. I write for a blog called Tips From The Disney Diva, I'm Savvy Diva. I've researched the snot out of this ship and I can't wait to write more articles!

I figured it out! Fish Extender! LOL

And we will probably participate, I'll know for sure closer to sailing...

Looks like we had to reschedule too. The step-kid's mother causing issues because of mother's day. But hey, we're going a week sooner!

Hi all! We'll definitely be cruising, this will be our 6th Disney cruise. Our 2nd on the Dream. I had re-booked onboard our last Dream cruise for the Fantasy, but I just couldn't pull the $4500 trigger at this point in our lives. So here we are!!!
I also didn't realize when I switched dates that this cruise will leave Mothers Day. That made me VERY happy!

It will be me, 44
Hubby, 43
Son, 10
Daughter, 7
Deck 8 not sure of room #
Late dining

Still deciding where we will be staying after the cruise to finish the vacation. Can't wait to chat with you all, its a ways off still. I can answer questions too since we have been 5 times.

Hi All,

We will be on the 5/12 cruise celebrating my 32nd birthday which is on May 15. This will be our 2nd cruise. We just finished a week-long western caribbean on the fantasy and rebooked on-board. We live in TN, but will be driving down to s. fla for my sister's wedding which is on 5/11 so we will drive up to port canaveral the next day for the cruise.

Our family:
Me-Nicole, turning 32 on the cruise
DH-Josh 32
DS-Ari, 5 at the time of the cruise

If anyone on the cruise has a little boy around 5 and would be interested in linking dining, please let me know.

thanks,
Nicole

So excited to be going on our First Disney Cruise (especially since we had to reschedule from this year!) We are open to all suggestions on how to get the most out of our trip. We're planning on going to WDW (MK and AK definitely) either before or afterwards (or both!!).

Joanne (DM - will be 41)
Mike (DD - 43)
Natalie (DD - 9)
Renee (DD - will be 6)

I'm hoping the girls will love the Oceaneers Club. We went on a non-Disney cruise last summer, and my gregarious 6 year old loved the kids club, but my shy 9 year old didn't enjoy it much (she was the oldest by a couple years). It would be great to communicate ahead of time with some other girls who are around the same age, so they'll be "ready-made" friends!

Plus, I'd love to hear suggestions as to when to go to WDW in relation to the cruise... I was thinking WDW before would be good since it's such an active place, and I'm hoping we can relax on the cruise afterwards!!

We will also be on this cruise and we are BEYOND excited! This has been a very difficult year (I've been in and out of doctors, specialists, testing...yada yada...feel like I live at the docors office! LOL) We are saving our pennies and havn't booked yet, but we are hoping to book after the first of the year!

There will definitely be 5 of us, and we are hoping for more :) We would love our family to come and celebrate life :)
In our group we are:
Amy-DM
Patrick- DD
Tyler-DS (14)
Jacob-DS (13)
Ana-DD (12)

Not sure which dining ye, but we would love to do an FE! :cool1:
