This is from Iberia on baggage: Baggage limit

Weight system:

This indicates the maximum weight of baggage transported free of charge. All passengers are allowed a number of free kilos for transporting their baggage depending on the class of service travelled, except children under 2 years of age ( * )

If this weight is exceeded, a financial penalty must be paid depending on the destination you are travelling to and the number of kilos in excess of the allowance.

As a general rule, the allowance for adults, will depend on the passenger class for your ticket .

40 kg. (88 lb.) in Business Plus Service.
30 Kg. (66 lb.) in Business Service. .
20 Kg. (44 lb.) on Tourist/Economy Class services

So is this saying that if you are in Economy class you can only have a total of 44 pounds of baggage????  :scared:

If that is the case, Iberia is out for me!! Air France is 70 pounds I think. If I read that site correctly and did the conversion from kg properly.

I have a few questions concerning flights/transportation requirements when we arrive in Barcelona.

We were thinking of going to Disneyland Paris for a few days after the cruise.

Should we travel by train or book airfares to Paris?

When we leave paris for the states, can we book a direct flight acroos the pond or is a stop over in London the best and cheapest way to go before heading back?

Thanks for all of your input. These may seem like stupid questions but we have never traveled to this area and are a little confused about traveling around over there however we would like to see Disney Paris while we are there. :stir:

I am headed to Disneyland Paris also following the cruise. Looking at flying because the train takes too long for the short time that I have.

The flight I booked with Continental is direct to Newark then I change planes to get home to Cleveland. I think it depends on what airlines you use.

I am learning at the same time! Again welcome :Pinkbounc

It gives me plenty of time to obsess over vacations. How much is the charge if you go over on luggage? Dh says why don't we all get together and charter a private jet? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: He was kidding but I said "Sure I'll call my buddy TOM CRUISE and get right on that!" What do you guys think? We can swing it, if we win the POWERBALL!!!!!! Dh says that if we win the lottery we are gonna book the whole ship and    ENJOY! Can you even imagine? Private shows, private dining, it would be kind of lonely to me.

Debbie,

That is EXACTLY what I'm saying.....it really makes it look like you can barely carry anything at all!! that has to be an error of some kind....I might try to find a stateside telephone number through an international airport to ask about it and see what I can find out.

OK....so I was stressing myself out about this even though it's AGES away and so I looked at the Iberia website. I was able to find a USA toll free English-speaking reservation/information number. I called them and asked about the per passenger luggage allowance for a one way flight from Barcelona to JFK in NYC (that's where Jason and I will be flying to.....I don't know if it would be different to a different destination in the states). The lady on the phone, interestingly enough, told me she did not know the regulation herself and would have to ask someone and put me on hold.....she came back a minute or two later and said that each passenger is allowed to bring aboard up to two checked pieces of luggage that are 50lb. or less and one carry-on that is about 25lb. She specifically said that a small backpack or something that will fit underneath your seat or easily overhead is the rule. So that panics me a bit less as it seems very similar to the luggage and weight restrictions for domestic USA flights.....so with Jason and I traveling Together it means we can each carry up to 3 bags with a divided total weight of about 125 pounds....I think I can stay under that well enough. :Pinkbounc

:tigger:

p.s. In case anyone else wants to try to contact Iberia for information on that or other issues, the number I called was 1800-772-4642.

How BIG can the bags be? I know some airlines have bag size requirements for inches and such. Anyone know? Dh thinks he will leave his tux @home and rent onboard as well. :groom: has anyone ever had any trouble with fitting? I think that with the price of these tickets that we should be able to take any bag we darn well please! Is anyone else afraid to fly? I am not really scared just a little nervous as I have never flown over an ocean before. Oh and straight from the mouth of the Delta lady on the phone with dh: Each passenger is allowed 2 50lbs bags, 40lb carry on and a "personal item". We also got the prices for 1st class  We must be out of our minds...So is 1st class really worth it? I'm not gonna be stuck in coach next to a guy with a goat am I?

I am flying from Paris on May 28. Round Trip..... and not using the return leg.

Besides DLP, the aircraft from Paris is MUCH bigger than the one from BCN to Newark.

I was lucky and got a $650 round trip Paris-EWR-CLE.

Debbie

Hmm - maybe I will re-look at Paris, if the aircraft is that much larger. Decision can't be made for another month due to a possible job change at my end. So, I am holding off purchasing until I know what is happening...

Thanks for the info :)

Trust me the goat might smell better than the guy with the goat, really..... I ain't kidding on this one.

RE: baggage allowances, I will be the first to bring this up, we should for go the fish extender/sailaway gifts, etc..... In lieu of we should get creative and do business cards or post cards, What cha think....

I will be wearing my Secret Service, Travel Vest on the way home and it will weigh about 150 lbs.... since I am allowed only 13 lbs of carryon.

the only thing about the iberia flight is the 2 day layover in madrid....i just don't think we want to wait that long....

i heard of another airline webpage that has great info...farecompare.com

also i got really good info from kayak.com (i think that is the website!)...and it does show all the us airlines too!

what really happens if you buy a round trip ticket and never use the other half? i thought the airlines could charge you more $$$....

Take a look at the iberia flights again......we're seriously looking at a couple of different flights and none of them have layovers that long.....in fact the all land in JFK, New York later on Saturday night the 26th. We WERE looking at a flight that a 40 hour layover in London but we can't afford another European destination so we decided to forego it....plus we want the full holiday weekend in the US to get over jetlag, etc.

I don't know....I think I could find a creative way to make a fish extender into a belt or a necktie.....and just wear it onto the plane so it doesn't count as luggage and doesn't take up space in my baggage.....:)
