Yes, Tyler's been to 2 weddings, one of which he was the ring bearer (at his dad's wedding just over a year ago). But this one will be very small (maybe around 30 people), and will be held at my brother's house, so it's very informal. He does have a large house (4,000 sq. ft.), but I believe they're holding the ceremony in their back yard.

Sounds like a very intimate affair  Nice that Tyler gets a few different perspectives of what weddings can be , sounds like you'll be able to visit with everyone there, since it's so small. Hope you have a wonderful time.

Well I'm off to bed, I have to get up for work in 6 hrs and try to get through the day...then home to my new granddaughter:angel: Samantha's dad is picking them all up at the hospital and bringing them to my house, it will be such a long day at work tomorrow, I want to be home!!

Congratulations to new baby Serenity and her proud relatives. By chance, are her parents fans of the Sci Fi series, Firefly?

I have to admit being a sci fi buff, I thought they have named her after the Firefly ship!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I wondered that too! Love that show - they have been showing it on Saturdays on the Universal HD network so I've been watching it again. Really liked the moive too!

I have been a sci fi buff since I was a child. We are watching The Stand tonight on sci fi.

Ugggghhh......557 miles each way!!! Last couple of times Tyler and I went to TN to visit my brother, we rode with my dad and stepmom and I dozed on and off the whole drive. LOL! I used to be able to drive straight through the whole way, but I was 10 years younger last time I did that. Now I have trouble driving to my dad's house about 80 miles away! :rotfl: It usually takes 8 hours, but that's with just stopping a couple of quick times for bathroom breaks and a quick meal & stretch. It will be interesting to see how long it takes with Tyler. Wish me luck! Well, the wedding isn't until 7pm, so we'll still have plenty of time to get there. ;)

Holly, I can do 8 hours straight with a bathroom break, quick meal and a stretch. You can do it if I can!!! I only stop because I drink lots of water and a bathroom break is a necessity!!!

Oh, I've done it myself many times. I have no problem with it, but if I were 5 years old, I doubt I'd be able to sit still that long. So I'm thinking we might have to stop at least twice for Tyler to run around a bit. He's already got a bunch of stuff planned that he wants to take with him to keep busy in the car, and I have a few new things that he doesn't know about yet that will give him something new to occupy him, but we can only fit so much in our little car. ;) But I've told him it that the same amount of time he spends all day at school, that's how long he'll be sitting in the car. He was a bit shocked, but seems to be up for the challenge. Fortunately he's not 2 years old and at that screaming age!

The only way I would travel that far with my GK's is with our DVD players and their favorite movies playing!! I still remember my then 5 year old DD saying to me one hour into an RV trip, "How many more exits until Yellowstone?" If we didn't have coloring books, bathrooms, food and a place for them to sleep, I think I would have lost my mind!!

When I go anywhere these days with the GK's, I either leave at 5AM or fly!!

It will be a fun trip because Tyler's really looking forward to swimming in my brother's pool. And I'm hoping on our way back home, when we're not worried about getting anywhere by a certain time, that we might find a cave to explore since there are tons around, especially in KY. I love Mammoth Cave and think Tyler'd be in awe, but I can't remember how far off of I-75 it is. Too tired to check a map tonight. Will check tomorrow. And there might be something closer to I-75 too.

OK....I'm REALLY headed to bed now! So much for my plans of getting plenty of sleep!

I know! I'm not thrilled about the drive with him. At all! That's the part I'm needing good luck wishes for. :rotfl: I told him we'll bring the DVD player for sure. I think I can strap it onto the back of the seat in front of him. We just don't use it very often....I think 2 times in the 2 years I've had it, but I'll find a way to rig it up for him. And he's already selected movies he wants to bring, so that should help. :thumbsup2 And he'll have the excitement of staying at Uncle Mike's with the whole family.

Mammoth caves sound fun. Here is a website to check out directions and hours.

If you get him plugged into his favorite movie, the drive seems to go much faster.

Indeed, we are leaving at 5am because I'm hoping he'll just fall right back asleep, provided his dad doesn't wake him up fully before I pick him up. However, last time I tried that trick, it failed miserably because he stayed awake from excitement about our trip! :lmao: Then he was a grouch until bedtime! I'd really love to start driving at 3 or 4am, just because that way I KNOW he'd fall back asleep, but his dad already grumbled about him having to get up before 5 on a weekend for me to pick Tyler up. I told him if it's easier, I can pick Tyler up at 9pm after class the night before, but he didn't want to have to keep him up so late. So....it is what it is and we'll make the best of it, as always. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Although I may not post as much as a lot of you, I try to read as often as I can, and am amazed at how generous and kind you all are to one another. So, where generally in life I have learned to be a little careful what I share with others, simply to protect myself from hurtful comments and judgements, I have decided to share with you what has been one of the most joyous days of my life.

Today I became the grandmother to the most beautiful baby girl:angel: :cloud9:

At 9:25 AM , Serenity was born weighing 8lbs 14 oz.

You may remember my daughter was married in May. Well, two days later, my son (who moved to another province in Feb) informed me that his girlfriend, who still lives here, was pregnant and expecting in Sept. We have had a few tough months. His girlfriend, Samantha (yes, yet another Samantha! ) and him planned to move her out to where he is after the baby was born. She is young and scared:sad1: One day she wants to move, the next she wants to stay here, how hard to have a new baby and move half way across the country where there are no friends or family. She does not have a mom around which just makes this harder. So my son took some time off work and came home a couple of weeks ago and Samantha has moved in with me for now. And finally, a week late (after being told by the doctors she was definately going to be early:rolleyes: ) a sweet baby girl was born this morning:goodvibes They will be coming home, to my house, on Monday. My son needs to go back to work on Thurs and Samantha and the baby will stay with me until Nov then move out west. I am so worried about how they will make out and whether Samantha will actually be able to follow through with these plans. But I try very hard, especially after losing my husband 5 years ago, to live each and every day for itself. So, on this very special day, I hope to share with all of you , the joy of being a grandma for the very first time.

Kathe

Kathe,

Congratulations!!

How generous and giving of you to have them stay with you. I hope that it will be joyous and that everything works our for the best!!

Thanks for sharing!

Karen

Thanks....I'll check it out tomorrow....I know if I go there now, I'll probably spend an hour or so checking everything out with excitement! ;)

I am the same way!! If you give me a tenative route, I will be happy to check to see if there are any caves or other exciting things Tyler might want to do. Just let me know.

I'm heading to the Hotel Del Coronado on Tuesday for a 4 day conference. DH was planning on coming up on Thursday to spend one of the nights but now may not be able to make it b/c of work (which would be a huge bummer). I was looking forward to experiencing the hotel together.

I just realized that I will be away during this week of season premieres! Argg! Hope my Tivo doesn't fail me now! I wish I had Slingbox and could watch from the hotel room.

I just got back from a 40th birthday friend for a friend from high school. They live out your way Karen, in Alamo. It was an amazing estate (my friend's grandmother's house)- 80 acres. It felt like being at a Great Gabsy party, but without the fancy party! There was only about 30 people there, and it was cold. The party was by the pool. Very simply BBQ, nothing fancy. No one is living at the estate anymore except in the caretaker's home. The grandmother's whose house it was, died two months ago. It was a bit sad, thinking that this great home was going to leave the family (it will be on the market). But I guess it is very complicated.

It was good to see old friends. A party on a school night though...that is always hard.

Off to bed early now. I'll try to keep up on the road. Lisa
