. One girl called to say the dishwasher was broken. I said I could send someone out the next day. Um...but the dishes are really piling up, she replies. Okayyyyy. How about you wash them in the sink....with dishsoap....and water?

I guess she forgot there was an 'old fashioned way' of doing them!

This reminds me of a story about my aunt who went a step too far towards the 'old fashioned way' when technology failed her. While scrubing the kitchen floor, her hot water handle broke on the kitchen sink, so she proceeded to fill pots and pans with water and heat them on the stove to complete the job. When my mom went over later that day and my aunt was complaining about the problem, mom asked her why she didn't just get the hot water from the bathroom! <---this was the look on my aunt's face.

My Dh was just talking about buying some property to rent to University students. I will hold him off and let you tell him those stories. That is exactly what I said would happen. Me painting. Me taking phone calls. Me doing it all. It's all about me!

Exactly! DH travels a lot, so it's me taking the phone calls, showing apartments (my least favorite job of all because half the time the people don't show up), doing all the paperwork. I really need to consider it is my job, but when you don't get a paycheck, that gets difficult sometimes. I'm pretty useless when it comes to maintenance, however. DBIL helps out when DH is out of town. DH showed me how to light the pilot light on a furnace yesterday, but that's about the extent of my knowledge. No plumbing, carpentry, or electrical skills here.

we have a rental house too. rented at the current time to new college grads, rugby boys. I too have to laugh at the calls. fortunately DH takes them, most of the time. last week they called me and asked if we could replace the picket fence in the front yard. I replied yes we are planning on it. he then said, good can you do it within the next month. I laughed. we'll replace the decorative fence when we get to it....most likely this summer, no not within the next month.

They always want everything done right away. We've had some pretty good tenants over the years and some really bad ones. You get all types.

Well I survived dinner....there were 14 of us so I was next to John's cousin who is down from Ohio. He and John are three months apart and he has two kids....the eldest is a month older than Samantha and the youngest is a month younger than Haley!! Pretty cool, unfortunatley his wife took the kids back to the condo as they started having a meltdown before we got there. The waiter was HORRIBLE and I hated that they added auto gratuity. He never brought us bread at all! I love Outback's bread...he got all our steaks wrong (cooking wise)...but oh well.

Tonight John closes so just the girls and I. I have to make something for our Spring luncheon tomorrow...not sure what though. And maybe I will have Samantha make cookies, she likes that.

fourmcds----thanks so much for posting that report!!! I think I've made up my mind to go ahead rent a jeep, tour around a bit and then hit a beach for the afternoon. That way both girls can come with us as most tours usually aren't for 5 and under.

Just checking in. I can't believe it isn't even 10:00 here, butI am fading fast. I spent today painting one of our apartments. We own just a few rentals, and the cash flow doesn't really justify using a property management company, so we do everything ourselves. I don't really mind the painting and other maintenance. It's the tenant calls that I don't like. The tenants are only supposed to call after 5:30 pm if it is an emergency, but their definition of an emergency is quite different from ours. My favorite (not!) was when one girl called at 1:00 am to complain that someone was in her parking spot. Did she want me to wake up everyone in the building to interogate them about parking in said spot? Good gravy. Needless to say, the girl had been imbibing that evening. We also rent to lots of university students with limited experience living in the real world. One girl called to say the dishwasher was broken. I said I could send someone out the next day. Sending you lots of hugs and love and positive happy thoughts because I care and we all care about you. You have become our good friend, even if we didn't meet yet, and we will....I'll see you Nov 1st in Pleasure Island and we'll cheers and laugh away the gray feelings that you have today.

Stay strong and just know that everything happens for a reason...even if it's just for a lesson. And the one constant thing about life is that it always changes. Nothing ever remains the same for long. Whatever has you down today will go away and be replaced with joy, peace and love. Keeping you in my thoughts, my good friend!
