Pixie Dust request for tomorrow.......(sorry it is a bit long)

DH is a real estate investor (when he isn't being the full time Dad)...we have been looking for a good house to move to but one that is in DD's home school area. She is actually on a waiver right now and there is a good chance that DD2 (starting K in fall) won't get in unless we get into that area because the school is so full. We have fallen in love with a house that was on the market in 9/06. We placed several offers but always got a no from the owners. The house has since gone into foreclosure (it is a disaster now...no fixtures, no toilets, walls half painted etc) and we tried to get them to sell it to us again, but still no luck. We have been dealing with this for 6 months now. Well, tomorrow the 2nd loan goes up for auction. We don't want to buy it because the cost for the 2nd and the 1st are more than the house is worth, but we hope no one else will buy it either. Ok, that was a really long story to explain that we need lots of good thoughts and pixie dust tomorrow that no one bids on the 2nd. If that is the case, then when the 1st comes up for auction on June 29, we can bid there and hopefully get the house:woohoo: ! If someone does get it tomorrow, we know it wasn't meant to be but I will be so :sad2: I must say this whole thing has been so exhausting. The owners of this house had 4 houses and the other 3 have all gone through foreclosure over the last 6 months! Why they wouldn't save themselves another one and just sell it to us for a reasonable price I have no idea.

Thanks everyone......

OMG - I just booked free dining!! 8/26-8/30 wow ----!

This is starting to sound like a great idea.....I am told Vanessa will arrive around the 18th of August. I am taking Daniel to school 16th and 17th. Schools does not start here till Sept 4th (my 50th birthday:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: )

Maybe we can go that week too.

Do you think it matters that we will just be returning form 14 days on the Disney Med Cruise (Aug 10th)....Do you think I can talk DH into it?

it's unreal for us, we have AP's and it works out to 143 per day! (at a value...)

Tell me your deal....I have tickets for all of us...old 10 day non-expire...can we use those and get free dining?

Where are you staying?? How fun would it be to take Vanessa the first week she is in the states!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

the minimum is 3 nights, one day base tickets, WHICH --- the cm even reminded me, can be used to renew our AP's just be sure not to use them.
We got 4 nights in a standard value, 2 adults, 1 child (one day base tickets a pc) free dining for $576.45, I wanted 3 nights, CM convinced me to add a fourth while I could and cancel if needed. (Odd time for my DH to be taking off, so I wasn;t sure. We cannot go in Sept at all as all weekends but one have a Gator home game - Spet is also my work's year end close.)

The Pirate and Princess party is on the 28th, so we are going to try and go to that too.

When I sign on to see my DD's loan, I can see what she borrowed on Sallie Mae and the disbursement dates, can't you? I can also see the information on the school website

:surfweb:
Mine's not through Sallie Mae, it's called CLC and I have no idea if they have a website. But if I go to the Federal website (nslds.ed.gov), which I just found out about this week, I can see all info for every student loan I've ever had, up through 7/13/06. It also says "Your enrollment status is Approved Leave of Absense effective 1/29/07". I don't have another website to check the status of loans other than the school. And it just showed up on the school's website this week. BUT I'm hesitant to believe what I'm seeing on the school's website because of how adamant they were about me not being able to get loans until I attend a semester to prove satisfactory academic progress. Everybody I talked to at school told me that, including people at the Appeals Office. But since the lender sent me a letter very recently telling me my loan would be disbursed in April and Sept, I suppose that's what I should believe since they're who the money comes from.

I've been doing student loans since 1994 and have never had any trouble until my current school. :sad2: They seem to have no idea what they're doing and other students have had similar experiences here. :scared: Just more of an incentive to graduate quicker and get them out of my hair! :thumbsup2

Mmm, I had always thought that they always had to make the 3 vows of poverty, obedience and chastity.

A priest one time told me that one that one main reason the church stopped allowing priests to get married had to do with finances (I'm Catholic myself - I just find this interesting perspective and not wanting/starting a debate:goodvibes). Here is what one article on the web said (on the About.com site):

A further and very important factor in the push to require celibacy for clergy was the problematic relationship the Roman Catholic Church had with real estate and inherited land. Priests and bishops were not just religious leaders: they also had political power over the people. When they controlled land, which was at the time the basis for any political power, that land could either go to the church or to the man's heirs when he died.

Naturally the church wanted to keep it and retain political power itself; the best way to do that was to ensure that there weren't any rival claimants on the land, and keeping the clergy celibate and unmarried was the easiest way to accomplish this goal. Making celibacy a religious obligation was also the best way to make sure that the clergy obeyed.

Interesting I think.

I hope Holly's boss never figures out how to get into Holly's computer. :rotfl: Holly make sure you shut it down every night.:lmao:

Good tip: Always delete your history, cookies, and temp files every day. It is a quick check I do sometimes with my staff to make sure too much time isn't spent surfing the web. I know there is much more in depth searches that can be done but I think 9/10 times that is all employers do (unless something serious is going on).

Good tip, but I really don't worry about it because they don't care what we do, as long as our work is caught up. :thumbsup2

Yes, as a matter of fact she was. (No offense taken) :rotfl2:

OK, Lori. Read all posts carefully before responding. Sorry, my tenant who didn't know how to wash dishes when the dishwasher was broken was indeed a blonde. No idea about the haircolor of Deb's friend.

Nope, not a blonde, brown hair and a CFO...go figure!

Are you talking about College Loan Corporation? They have a website

http://www.collegeloan.com/content.aspx?cb=2366

and a phone number 18002 College

It does not appear they have a login on the website but if this is the right place, you might check with them on you loan via phone.

Here is what one article on the web said (on the About.com site):QUOTE]

From the Catholic Church website:

http://www.catholic-ew.org.uk/faith/living/celibacy.htm

The history of celibacy

The tradition of celibacy seems to be exclusively Christian and to have been connected from the beginning with the virtue of chastity. It is evident that Jesus remained unmarried, but the reference to the apostle Peter's mother-in-law (Mark 1:30) indicates that not all of Jesus' followers were. The letters of St Paul make it clear that at least some of the early Church leaders (its bishops and priests) were married (Letter to Timothy 3:1-5).

There was no law established in the first three or four centuries. There is evidence, however, that even at this time many priests were unmarried or withdrew from marriage after ordination. Further evidence suggests that the people did not always approve of married clergy, and there is reference to people being urged not to stop going to services just because they were being led by a married priest.

The Council of Elvira in Spain (about 306) forbade all bishops, priests and deacons from having wives. This practice then began to apply to the whole of the Western or Roman Church through various papal decrees from Pope Damasus I onwards. Damasus regarded sexual intercourse as 'defilement' (a legal impurity rather than a sin, along the lines of the Old Testament Jewish laws - see Leviticus 15:18).

The 'Dark Ages', however, saw a decline in priestly morale and discipline as society itself fell into turmoil. About 1018 Pope Benedict VIII reacted against this decline and brought in stronger laws to support clerical celibacy and made it impossible for the children of priests to inherit property (which had often been church property in the first place).

This move was strongly supported by Pope Gregory VII (1073-1085) and his applying of existing rules is regarded as the first effective enforcement of clerical celibacy. The Second Lateran Council in 1139 seems to provide the first written law that made it impossible for a cleric to get married. Later, after the Protestant Reformation of the 16th century, the Council of Trent reaffirmed the tradition of celibacy in 1563. Yet, despite arguments from some of the bishops present, the Council said that it was not a law that came from God but a Church tradition that could be changed. It said, too, that the Church's position on celibacy in no way minimised its high regard for marriage: the two callings were quite distinct and had their own distinctive demands.

The present position

The Church's position remains essentially what it was at the Council of Trent. Celibacy is not an essential element of priesthood (in other words there could be a priesthood which is not celibate), but it is considered as an important part of priesthood, and a sign of the priest's commitment to be free to serve God and his people.

The Catholic priest and celibacy

It is clear from the above that the Roman Catholic Church has had a long tradition of requiring celibacy of its priests. By the ordinary rules of traditional morality chastity has always been required of them, in the same way that it is required of everybody.

The promise of celibacy is made by the future priest during the ceremony of ordination as a deacon - this is the stage before priesthood. The bishops says to the candidate: "Celibacy is both a sign and a motive of pastoral charity, and a special source of spiritual fruitfulness in the world. By living in this state with total dedication, moved by a sincere love for Christ the Lord, you are consecrated to him in a new and special way. By this consecration you will adhere more easily to Christ with an undivided heart; you will be more freely at the service of God and mankind. By your life and character you will give witness to your brothers and sisters in faith that God must be loved above all else, and that it is he whom you serve in others."

By 'Roman Catholic' we mean the Church that regards the Pope in Rome as its highest authority on earth. The 'Eastern' or 'Orthodox' Church (some of which also recognise the pope as head) has a different tradition, and allows married priests. It will allow married men to be ordained priests, but will not allow priests to get married. Their bishops are not married, nor are their monks.

Recent exceptions: married former Anglican priests

Yup, that's the one! :goodvibes I believe that phone number is probably on the letter I received from them, but no call was necessary because the letter told me the expected disbursement dates. And the school's website now says the same, so I'm set. Relief! :woohoo:

I am so glad for you and Tyler!! Wahooo...the vacation is still on!!

Well, I did drop during the semester--- a week and a 1/2 into the semester. So that could be what the problem is. But again, had they told me that when I asked about the procedure and about what would happen when I returned the next semester, I never would have. But it seems everything worked out, so it's all in the past. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Holly and Kaylee, I will keep my fingers crossed for both of you!

I have to say Holly, I HATE, HATE, HATE dealing with higher education institutions. I hated it as a student. I now HATE it as a parent. Don't get me wrong, I love education - it is the bureaucracy of colleges and Universities that is so frustrating.

Last semester I had a different issue. The registrar's office e-mails everybody to tell us our assigned date and time for registration. If you're unable to make your assigned time, you can fax your registration form the morning of your assigned date. It's a different fax number than the registrar's office because registration is held at the auditorium. So you have to fax to the auditorium. That's what I did because I couldn't get off work. I kept the fax confirmation sheet showing the fax did indeed go through. A week later, when I never received verificaton of my schedule in the mail, I called the school and was told I never registered. I even took my fax confirmation sheet to show them it was received on their end, but nobody cared because it wasn't "in the system". The guy working questioned what number I faxed it to, so I showed him that it went to the auditorium. He told me, "Oh, that's why we didn't get it." So I showed him the instruction sheet that said to fax it to the auditorium. Nothing I tried mattered. By this time, all the classes I needed were closed, so I had to take whatever I could get, which meant driving out of town to another campus (3 hour round trip) a couple times a week. :headache:

I'll be so happy to graduate and not have to deal with them any more!

Good example of the kind of #$%$ I am talking about. Most college kids just take it I think, and then Universities don't like it when parents get involved, and say we are not letting out kids grow up. I went through some of this with Alex at YSU - I am happy to let Alex grow up, but I won't stand for the BS when I am paying what I am to send him through school. The cost of school keeps going up, but the BS seems to grow with the cost!
