Hello All:

Just got back from our first "camping" trip of the weekend! We usually go camping with 3 other families on Memorial Day & Labor Day. This year due to colds and poor planning, we ended up spending the weekend at our friends house. They live on 10 acres and we told the kids they could only go inside during sleeping hours and to use the bathroom. We set up a 100 foot slip n slide for the kids and they had a blast. It was actually a beautiful weekend here in WA and we are due to hit 80 on Wednesday :cheer2: Next year I'll be :sad1: on memorial day since we will be off the ship after 2 great weeks.

I skimmed the posts...

Karen: Your shop looks great! From the looks of it, it is going to be a huge success.

Nan: great picture of the kids at the movie.

That story about the couple who didn't make the cruise was so sad.

Welcome to everyone who joined.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Can you post a link to Bobby Banana's trip report? Does he get his photo taken on all his excursions and all over the ship?
Jan :earsgirl:

I think it may finally be time to share with all of you (since we are less than a year out) the official Geek cruise mascot. His name is Bobby Banana, and he has been in the DCL Witness Protection Program since our last cruise.

In reality...how big is this guy?!

I loved his trip report! Cracked me up!

Does anyone have the link for this?

I'm sitting here, uploading the Middle School's APT (like PTO) website...blip blip blip, and thought I would stop in here while I'm waiting for it upload. Am I going to regret clicking on Bobby Banana's trip report? I'm always up for adventure, so let's go click on it.

Okay, I'm inspired and always love to pirate an idea. Now, the search for something worthy of likes of Bobby Banana.pirate:

I was wondering where in California the wine shop is. Would it be close enough to visit after the cruise, before we head home? IE: Close to the port?

Jan :earsgirl:

Jan,

We are in Northern California in Benicia, near San Francisco.

LOL! This reminds me of one of Gilda Radner's characters on Saturday Night Live -- hard-of-hearing little old lady Emily Latella.

Emily Latella would give a guest editorial on "Weekend Update", where she would complain about a news item she clearly misunderstood. Example: "What's all this fuss about violins on television? For heaven's sake, if anything there ought to be more violins on television!"

Chevy Chase, anchor of the news, would let her rant a bit and then gently correct her, e.g., "That's violence on television, not violins". Emily would turn to the camera, smile, and say "Never mind!"

In other episodes, she complained about "Busting" School Children, "Canker" Research, "Celery" Caps, Endangered "Feces", the "Eagle" Rights Amendment, Making Puerto Rico a "Steak", and Presidential "Erections."

Anyone remember these classic skits?

Woody

Woody,

DH and I are HUGE SNL fans and I remember all of Gilda Radners "bits". Emily Latella was a favorite, and I still use her "nevermind" in the same voice, when I have been confused or incorrect about a conversation.

She definitely died too young...

Yes Jan - we grew up in Hobart. Lots of horsing around in the Valpo area though. One of my favorite "tack" shops was in Valpo - still is I think. Although I'm sure it's changed owners since then.

I did indeed move to Chicago after high school and lived there until I moved to Long Island ... lived there for 5 years (the entire time the ISLANDER's won their Stanley cups!).

I remember riding across CW Post college property on horseback (I worked at a ranch on Valentine Road) and the owner and I would take off and always get caught by campus security... at one point they called Westbury police dept. on us, but he was a pillar of the community (East Meadow Animal Hospital owner) and we always got let go. Those were the days! Wonder how Dr. Gross is doing now???

Then I moved here, my folks retired to Scottsdale and I knew I had to live in this "horse country". Not so much anymore. All the stables have been pushed farther and farther out of town - Verde River area, etc.

I still board at a place where I can ride out into the desert - for how much longer... not sure! But we still like take the "kids" (dogs, horses) up north in the summer to camp. We are all getting older, and the trail seems longer, but we still enjoy it! :thumbsup2 :upsidedow

PJ,

Sounds Idyllic! DD is VERY into horses and would love to "have" a horse. Not sure if she is ready for all of the work involved though!

does the "DIS lost Boys come to mind"

make mine stout

John:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I may be a Champagne Girl and a Wine Wench (my new name at the new wine bar..) but I LOVE Stout!! Chocolate Stout, Oatmeal Stout, I also love Porters and Ales! However, I'd rather drink water than have a "light beer" or most lagers...

DH used to make GREAT beer before he got involved with making wine and our wine shop!

I'm being hopeful that we'll be flying on Friday during that day (as opposed to the red eye) and I made my ressie at the Hyatt MCO using the Autoclub rate. It was $159 which was a decent savings I thought. I'm thinking you all should book early if you have autoclub and want the rate because they usually only reserve a certain number of rooms for that rate....;)

Here is my review of that cruise:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18888534#post18888534

Still horribly jet lagged...need to do laundry and get a shower so I can get to my parents for bbq tonight. I will post most later. Meeting up with all the disboarders was the highlight of the trip.

Aunty,

So glad to have you back.

Sorry about all of the trials and tribulations of your Med Repo cruise!

We were scheduled for 7-7-07 in the Med but had to cancel due to the delayed opening of our wine shop. Now I'm not as sorry as I was!

We had some rough challenges on our Panama Cruse in August of 2005, but all in all it was really great and we had great food and a great crew!

We will be going on an Eastern Caribean cruise in November. Hopefully DCL will get their #&$* together before then!!

Karen

Quiet here tonight!

All alone again

Digga dang, digga dang... (remember, sung to on the road again...)
