Max number of people in rooms?

Hi, my wife and I have been talking about joining the vacation club. One question I did have was about the maximum number of people in a room.

We have two children so a 1 bedroom would work great. The information we recieved from Disney mentioned that the 1 bedroom sleeps 4.

I know there are limits in a regular Disney hotel room. Are there limits to the number of people you can have in a DVC room? If we had another child, would we have to get a two bedroom or would that not be a problem?

would be fine for at least at first. The 4 limit would not apply to a child in a crib (which is provided). After that it's really up to you. Some people are real sticklers about the rules, but Disney does not really police this.

This topic is sure to bring out some strong opinions, so I'll say my piece before it gets heated.

The Disney stated room occupancy limits are as follows:

Studio - 4
1 BR - 4
2 BR - 8
Grand Villa (3 BR) - 12

Additionally, each unit will also hold a child up to 3 years old, so even if you had another child, the stated limits would leave you in studio or 1 BR until that child was 3.

Here comes the part that liable to get heated .... Disney does not actively police these limits. I have never seen or heard of Disney enforcing these room occupancy limits. Of course, that would mean you are breaking the rules if you do not follow the limits. However, some people choose to do just that. To be honest with you, we stayed in a 1 BR with 4 adults and a 6 year old child and we had plenty of room for everyone (the child, our niece, slept with us in the king bed). To some, that would have been an unforgivable breach of the rules. To others, it would be perfectly understandable.

I guess the bottom line here is that you choose whether or not you will follow this policy and how closely you will follow it. Disney does not enforce it as of now (who knows what they will do in the future). I'm not encouraging breaking the rule, I'm just giving it to you straight.

The stated limits are as follows...and children under 3yo do not count.

Studio-4
Studo plus (only at BWV)-5, but the fifth would have to be a younger child...under 7 or 8 I'd say, depending on size, to fit on the small daybed.
One br-4
Two br-8
GV-12

We're expecting our third child and will be using studios or 1br's until that child is 3yo (in 2007)....at that point, even without this baby, we'd probably want a 2br. My oldest will be 12yo then and probably won't want to sleep with his sister, who will be 7yo. Granted, if it weren't for the 3rd child, we might just make him use a sleeping bag or deal with it! Plus, once we have a 2br every trip I'm pretty sure we could talk my parents or my sil and her husband, or even one of my cousins who will be in her late teens into joining us...and have built in babysitters!

Aside from the extra points, the larger accomodations will have their advantages.

I'm curious as to the technical rules regarding children under 3. Do they not count at all toward occupancy limits (as Lesley stated), or are you allowed one child under 3 per unit in a ddition to the stated occupancy (as Chadm stated)?

If they do count children under 3 in any way, shouldn't they allow you two if you are in a 2 br? Do dedicated 2 brs provide 2 pack-n-plays or would you just have two in a lock-off (one in the studio closet and one in the 1 br closet)?

I'm trying to figure out if we'll be scofflaws in Nov '04 when we have 8 people plus 2 children under 3 in a 2 br.

To answer Disneykidds question - the under 3 year old does not count toward the limit. As for say twin babies, you would need to ask for an additional crib as each condo is only supplied with one crib. (unless you have a 2BR lockoff). I don't think you would be given any grief over such a request.


Now for the evil part....

As our seasoned posters can tell you, the topic of whether you can exceed the occupancy guidelines gets out of hand quickly here. Is it is not allowed on the boards. Since your original question has been answered, I am going to lock this thread.
