We have all of our ADR's for 9 people, but now my SIL is coming with us and I'm not sure how to go about adding 1 person to every single reservation. I'm wondering if I even have to...because the 9 people is including one of my daughters who is only 2 and can sit on my lap if need be (and obviously won't be ordering her own meal). Is it okay to just leave the reservations at 9?

Try to add another person if you can. The age of the guests or whether they order food or take up a seat is not relevant to the fire codes. If you try to check into a restaurant that is full to capacity with a party of 10 when your reservation is for 9, one of you will not be seated.

That'd only happen if the restaurant is completely full. If not, they'll probably try to work her in. But you might have to wait longer than you would have otherwise, or you might not.

I think I would try to change them (when you show up with 10 people, they won't "count" it as 9 since your 2 yr old could sit on your lap...even if she does, they'd still count the party as 10.)

However, if they can't change your ressies to 10, you can try showing up with 10. In most cases, they'd be seating a party of 9 at a table that could accomodate 10 people so you may be able to get seated. I would expect the possibility that (1) you have to wait longer and/or (2) they turn you down on the party of 10. There are some other considerations...including staffing levels, fire code room capacity, etc. So some restaurants may have to stick to the party of 9 originally booked. Here's hoping pixie dust for your group, though!:thumbsup2

So I just have to call then? I hate talking on the phone. LOL The online system only goes up to 9 people otherwise I'd just change it to 10 easily.

eta- the other problem is that I can't even split the reservation for like 5 and 5 or something, because there aren't more spots during that time (it would change our entire schedule). But this is all over one person.

I've made reservations for 10 online before, have they changed it?
